Recognition Celebration is designed to bring the Western Communities of Palm Beach County together as one as we pay tribute to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to our local organizations and to the Glades Communities. Each Glades area organization, agency, business, and individual will have an opportunity to recognize up to two people by completing an Honoree Form. The cost of each Honoree's Plaque is $25.00. Rapunzel Auditions/ Wilhelmina's Butterflies Book Signing
Auditions for Rapunzel, 20th Annual production with the Missoula Children's Theatre at the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center!
An audition will be held for the Missoula Children's Theatre production of RAPUNZEL those auditioning should arrive at 3:45 pm and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the auditions.The roles to be cast include Rapunzel, the Princes, Madame Gothel, Rapunzel's Parents, the Wood Elves, Ears of Corn and a Potato, Unicorns, Pixies, Gremlins, Billy Goats Gruff, a Troll, Three Bears, a Beaver, Ogres and Mushrooms. All students, grades Kindergarten through 12th grade are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant Directors will also be cast to assist with the technical aspects of the production.

#OK2TALK : Palm Beach County Speaks Conference and Breakfast
Please join us for our April 25th for the unveiling of the action plan based on the results of the #OK2TALK town hall meetings! This event will be held at the Embassy Suites on April 25th -- Breakfast ($25 per person) will be at 8:00 AM with the conference (free) beginning at 9:00 AM. The findings of all of #OK2TALKPBC Town Hall meetings will be revealed. A panel of local leaders will be present to discuss the findings, community solutions, and action plan formulated throughout the series.
A series of Town Hall Meetings was held between January and March 2014 both in person and through social media, where millennials spoke up for change and reform in Palm Beach County, Florida. Town hall meetings were held in all regions of the county: South, Central, North, and Belle Glade, to seek insights and solutions from Palm Beach County citizens that will lead to the prevention of people with mental illness from entering the legal system. Young people, business leaders, and policymakers talked about mental illness, finding community-based solutions, creating an action plan with clear steps that will prevent people with mental illness from needlessly entering the legal system.
Please join us on April 25th for the unveiling of the action plan based on the results of these town hall meetings! The Glades Initiative, Inc. has a position open for a part-time Training Coordinator
This position will be responsible for setting up various training events to include our Cooking Matters Nutrition Education Courses, and other system of care courses that will improve the coordination and effectiveness of the health and human service system in the Glades. Key areas of responsibility include marketing the trainings to the targeted audience to ensure trainings are filled to capacity, preparing all materials and supplies needed for the trainings, recruitment and management of trainers/volunteer educators, ensuring trainings follow the fidelity of research based curricula, and collect and analyze pre/post training data and demographic data on training participants. Experience working in the Glades area, and bilingual in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole preferred though not required. Bachelor's degree required. Required PC proficiency (Excel,
Word, PowerPoint) and 2-4 years experience in health and human service nonprofit work and experience in training coordination. Valid Florida Driver's license, automobile insurance and reliable transportation to get back and forth to training locations.

Free Swimming Lessons at Belle Glade Pool and Pioneer Park Aquatic Center
The Drowning Prevention Coalition provides vouchers for free swim lessons for qualified children between the ages of 3 and 12 years old. Vouchers are provided on a first come / first served basis. A maximum of two vouchers are available per qualified child. A second voucher will be denied if the child does not attend all lessons in the first session. Children who achieve level three in a swim program will also not be issued additional vouchers to enable non-swimming children to participate in the program. Parents whose child(ren) qualify and receive a voucher, may sign up for lessons at any participating aquatic facility in Palm Beach County.
Qualification Survey for Swim Bucks Program:
Child must be a resident of Palm Beach County
Child must be between the ages of 3 and 12.
Child must receive one or more of the following: Medicaid, Food Stamps, Heathy Kids, Free Lunch, Section 8 Housing.
Child has not used two free swim vouchers in the past OR completed level three of a swim program.
Child is Special Needs.
Applications will be accepted on or after April 1, 2014.

The Center for Child Counseling is very pleased to be partnering with Women in Distress' Jim and Jan Moran Family Center to offer Play Therapy 101: A Client Centered Approach. This workshop is an excellent introduction to Play Therapy for students, interns, school counselors, and mental health professionals who work with children and would like to start using Play Therapy techniques . Building therapeutic relationships with children requires different skills than those generally used in working with adults. The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with a basic introduction to the principles and techniques used in Client Centered Play Therapy. Non-directive Play Therapy is a developmentally appropriate model, supported by research, for counseling children ages 3 to 13 who are experiencing a wide variety of presenting issues.The workshop will involve experiential activities in which the participant will learn and practice the basic techniques used in Client Centered Play Therapy.
