The Center for Child Counseling is very pleased to be partnering with Women in Distress' Jim and Jan Moran Family Center to offer Play Therapy 101: A Client Centered Approach. This workshop is an excellent introduction to Play Therapy for students, interns, school counselors, and mental health professionals who work with children and would like to start using Play Therapy techniques . Building therapeutic relationships with children requires different skills than those generally used in working with adults. The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with a basic introduction to the principles and techniques used in Client Centered Play Therapy. Non-directive Play Therapy is a developmentally appropriate model, supported by research, for counseling children ages 3 to 13 who are experiencing a wide variety of presenting issues.The workshop will involve experiential activities in which the participant will learn and practice the basic techniques used in Client Centered Play Therapy.

Leadership Glades 2014 Class - Brick Sales Flyer Fundraiser
This year the 2014 Class of Leadership Glades sponsored by the Belle Glade Chamber of commerce is joining forces with The City of Belle Glade and Palm Beach County Sheriff's office in the creation of a Veteran's Memorial at the Loading Ramp Park in Belle Glade. Funding for the overall park project and collaboration for the design is ongoing and expected to be completed prior to the end of 2014. Leadership Glades Class of 2014, recognizes the importance of honoring our Veterans and has chosen the opportunity to add a special feature on this community supportive project. To Raise Funds we are asking for contributions for individual brick pavers. The brick pavers will be utilized in the construction of the Veteran's Memorial Area and laser engraved with individuals and/or corporate name. Brick contributions are $50 minimum. Each paver is 4" x 8 ".Show your support to our community and local Veterans in this unique opportunity.

Free Swimming Lessons at Belle Glade Pool and Pioneer Park Aquatic Center
The Drowning Prevention Coalition provides vouchers for free swim lessons for qualified children between the ages of 3 and 12 years old. Vouchers are provided on a first come / first served basis. A maximum of two vouchers are available per qualified child. A second voucher will be denied if the child does not attend all lessons in the first session. Children who achieve level three in a swim program will also not be issued additional vouchers to enable non-swimming children to participate in the program. Parents whose child(ren) qualify and receive a voucher, may sign up for lessons at any participating aquatic facility in Palm Beach County.

New Program from CareerSource Replaces Public Assistance with Paychecks CareerSource Palm Beach County Launches Program to Increase Employment in Glades Communities
CareerSource Palm Beach County is launching a new program called Employment Reconnection that provides jobs and skills upgrades for residents receiving government-sponsored cash assistance programs, many of whom are long-term unemployed (those actively seeking a job for more than six months). More than half of the 53 participants are from the Glades communities in western Palm Beach County, historically one of the areas of highest unemployment in Florida and the nation. Through Employment Reconnection, individuals are paid $12 per hour for working 40 hours a week over 12 weeks. The program is running now through June 6, 2014. "We know that most people want to get back to work, and we're delighted to provide them with a pathway to employment that may become a permanent position," said Steve Craig, president and chief executive officer of CareerSource Palm Beach County. "Employment Reconnection will give businesses an incentive to offer our residents a chance to earn paychecks and upgrade their job skills."

Multicultural Health Fair in the Glades Seeking Medical and Health Care Volunteers
The Haitian American Nursing Organization & Allied (HANOA) of West Palm Beach hosts a multicultural, educational and health fair on May 24 at Glades Community Central High School in Belle Glade. Anticipating more than 1,000 health fair visitors, HANOA is putting out a call for medical and other health care professionals to volunteer.
During the free day-long event, medical and health care professionals will provide information about nutrition, diet and exercise, childhood obesity, HIV/AIDS, mental health and common chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disorders, depression, dementia, breast cancer and more. The fair also will offer complimentary health screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI and mammography.

The findings of all of #OK2TALKPBC Town Hall meetings will be revealed. A panel of local leaders will be present to discuss the findings, community solutions, and action plan formulated throughout the series.
A series of Town Hall Meetings is being held between January and March 2014 both in person and through social media, millennials speak up for change and reform in Palm Beach County, Florida. We are holding town hall meetings in all regions of the county: South, Central, North, and Belle Glade. The goal is to seek insights and solutions from Palm Beach County citizens that will lead to the prevention of people with mental illness from entering the legal system. Young people, business leaders, and policymakers will talk about mental illness, find community-based solutions, create an action plan with clear steps that will prevent people with mental illness from needlessly entering the legal system.
