Glades Area Teacher Publishes Children's Book: Wilhelmina's Butterflies
Clarice Thornton Davis marks her debut in children's literature with Wilhelmina's Butterflies. A mix of brilliant illustrations and a compelling narrative, this storybook will introduce readers to the dazzling world of classical music through the adventures of a little girl.
Eight-year-old Wilhelmina is passionate about classical music. Her family, friends and even teachers all wonder why someone as young as her is so interested in that particular music style. For Wilhelmina, it is pretty simple: she likes the sounds of the instruments and finds the music relaxing. The little girl loves classical music so much that she sometimes imagines herself playing in the orchestra whenever she hears it playing.
Wilhelmina has always dreamed of going to the Symphony Hall to listen to an orchestra play live. She finally gets her wish when her entire third grade class visits the Symphony Hall for a field trip. As it turns out, the field trip becomes a meaningful learning experience for everyone in the class. Through the children's adventures, Davis lends a glimpse into the wonders of classical music (the last part of the book features a short glossary of terms used in this genre of music). More importantly, she teaches the joy of having a dream and the power of determination to make those dreams come true.
About the Author: Clarice Thornton Davis worked as an elementary teacher and reading coach in Palm Beach County, Florida. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree from Florida Atlantic University, a Master of Science in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University and is an Education Specialist in Teacher Leadership, also from Walden University. Currently retired, she serves as an independent education consultant. She lives in West Palm Beach, Florida, with her husband, Ollice Davis, Jr.

Glades Public Workshops Set to Discuss Master Plan
The Glades Region Master Plan is a community-driven process that will craft a blueprint for economic development and redevelopment, focusing on major employment centers including the proposed Intermodal Logistics Center. Two workshops have been scheduled to provide a forum for Glades residents to learn, ask questions, and make suggestions about the plan components, the results of current studies and recommendations for infrastructure improvements. During the week following each workshop, a project team will set up a design studio at the above locations to provide an open forum for members of the public to visit at their convenience to ask questions, learn more and provide input. The workshops and design studios are a key element to the public participation process and are intended to keep Glades neighborhoods engaged, informed and involved in the planning process. Many of you may remember that Palm Beach County received a $2 million grant to do this. They are doing their part- now it is time for us to do our part. Our responsibility is to provide them with input on what we want and need here in the Glades as we plan for our future.
