Glades Public Workshops Set to Discuss Master Plan
The Glades Region Master Plan is a community-driven process that will craft a blueprint for economic development and redevelopment, focusing on major employment centers including the proposed Intermodal Logistics Center. Two workshops have been scheduled to provide a forum for Glades residents to learn, ask questions, and make suggestions about the plan components, the results of current studies and recommendations for infrastructure improvements. During the week following each workshop, a project team will set up a design studio at the above locations to provide an open forum for members of the public to visit at their convenience to ask questions, learn more and provide input. The workshops and design studios are a key element to the public participation process and are intended to keep Glades neighborhoods engaged, informed and involved in the planning process. Many of you may remember that Palm Beach County received a $2 million grant to do this. They are doing their part- now it is time for us to do our part. Our responsibility is to provide them with input on what we want and need here in the Glades as we plan for our future.

Dr. David Shern, CEO of Mental Health America, will present new research from NIMH and Mental Health America about how to improve productivity and reduce absenteeism due to depression in the workplace. With depression affecting 1 in 4 employees with a detrimental impact on workplace productivity as well as on health insurance costs, more businesses than ever must examine the role of depression in workplace productivity. In fact, over a 3-month period, employee's dealing with depression miss on average 4.8 workdays and experience 11 days of reduced productivity! Individuals with untreated depression can double health care expenditures associated with the treatment of other conditions.
Employers have good reasons for getting depression recognition and treatment right. Dr. Shern will present research that involves a rigorous return on investment analysis (ROI) of a specific approach to depression management which is coordinated with primary care. This research demonstrates that it is definitely a good business decision to manage depression that improves productivity and reduces absenteeism.
