Clinics Can Help, with the assistance of the ARC of the Glades, has a new lending facility to help those who cannot afford durable medical equipment or supplies. The Lending Closet is the main program of Clinics Can Help. Clinics Can Help is a non-profit organization that is committed to helping the environment and healthcare by the efficient recovery and distribution of medical equipment and supplies to children and adults in need in Palm Beach County.

Palm Beach County Department  of Economic Sustainability: County Awards Federal HOME Funding to Rehab Covenant Villas in Belle Glade

 

First, there was Hurricane Wilma in 2005, and then the economic downturn -- two major factors in the gradual deterioration of apartments at Covenant Villas, a 144-unit rental apartment community in Belle Glade. But thanks to the recent award of $500,000 in federal funding by the Board of County Commissioners, major renovations can now get underway. The rehabilitation project was selected to receive U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development HOME Investment Partnerships Program loan financing through a competitive bid process issued by the Department of Economic Sustainability. Owner, manager and developer of the project is NOAH Development Corp., a nonprofit organization with a 25-year history of helping to provide decent, affordable rental homes to low-income residents of Belle Glade, including residents with special needs, farm workers, and the elderly.

Volunteers Needed to Help Teach the Cooking Matters Nutrition Education Classes in the Glades

 

The Glades Initiative, Inc. , along with our partners helping us to address food security in the Glades, will be implementing the Cooking Matters Nutrition Education program. This is a 6 week cooking class that teaches families how to prepare healthy meals on a low budget, helping families improve the way they shop, cook, and eat. The mission of the program is to empower families at risk of hunger with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to make healthy and affordable meals. The class can be offered to adults, families (parents with children), teens, children, and seniors.

We are looking at the possibility of offering our first 6 week course this October on Sunday's to a group of teens in Belle Glade. However, we are in need of volunteers to fill the following roles:


*Culinary Educators - experience in culinary arts preferred, but not required. 
*Nutrition Educators - experience in nutrition preferred, but not required.
*Class Assistants - to assist with class preparation, organizational skills required.

Volunteer time commitment for each course is two to three hours per week for six weeks.

NewKita Group Thanks Everyone for Their Participation in the 4th Annual Walk For Change

 

NewKita Group cannot express how thankful we are for everyone that participated in the 4th Annual Walk for Change Event on 9/7/13. Everyone can make a difference! We are continuing to research and plan ways of how the Walk for Change can be a better event and reach more individuals.

NewKita Group and its partners served 168 children totaling 215 individuals overall. Many of the children and their families received FREE School uniforms, shoes, hygiene items, Food, school supplies, book bags and educational information. An Overview of Income Withholding for Support presented by Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement

 

Join the educational session with Cindy Holdren, Senior Associate with Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement, Administration for Children and Families, Department of Health and Human Services. Participants will have an introduction to Income Withholding Order origins and procedures, best practices and will learn how to complete the Order efficiently and properly. There will also be a session for questions and comments on the new upcoming revised IWO. Training is free and space is limited, reserve your seat today!
