Construction Begins on Centennial Trail Northwest Extension!
An exciting start to 2016, construction of the Northwest Extension of the Spokane River Centennial Trail has begun. This 1.7 mile addition of Class 1 separated trail starts at Mile 37.5 at Sontag Park and ends at the Nine Mile Falls Recreation Area. The route has been surveyed and tree removal has begun. Most construction will commence in March once the soil has dried out. State Parks expects the project to be completed in May.
Friends of the Centennial Trail have supported this project with a matching funds gift of $20,000 from its Trail Builder's Fund. This designated fund supports trail completion and enhancement projects. Donations to the Trail Builder's Fund come from private, designated gifts and proceeds from the annual Spokane Bike Swap & Expo, which will be held Saturday, April 9 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Spokane Interstate Fairgrounds. Bike Swap is a fun-filled event to sell, buy or donate a used bike and shop for great deals on new bikes and accessories and learn more about your cycling community. In four years, $98,000 in Bike Swap proceeds have been invested in the Trail Builder's Fund. |
