Our advocacy work focuses on many projects as we strive to move our Trail toward completion. Here's a snapshot of what keeps us busy - from east to west:

Old Mission Trailhead: This new trailhead has been added just east of Sullivan Road, next to the River House at the Trailhead Apartments at Mile 8.5.  We thank the City of Spokane Valley for plans to add infrastructure to this area.

Sullivan Bridge: With bridge replacement comes a Centennial Trail detour. Those interested can subscribe to receive the emailed Traffic Alerts and emailed Sullivan Bridge project updates at www.spokanevalley.org/signup

Argonne Road Gap: We are pleased about recent positive meetings between Inland Empire Paper Company, State Parks and Spokane County Parks to move forward with the easement at the community pumpkin patch, to allow re-routing the Trail from Upriver Drive.

Mission Avenue Gap:

Final design studies are in place with City of Spokane and we hope funding can be made available to complete the three phases simultaneously.

Don Kardong Bridge: This major thoroughfare for 10,000 Gonzaga University a
nd Riverpoint campus students is in dire need of re-decking and new paint. We are actively encouraging these updates with the City of Spokane.

Riverfront Park:  Centennial Trail visibility, traffic flow and safety are the primary considerations for this renovation - and we'd like to see the Trail become a tourist attraction here with glow in the dark asphalt and fabulous directional signs!

Post Street Bridge: We look forward to serving on the Project Advisory Committee for the upcoming Post Street Bridge renovation.

Bridge to Boone Gap:

Now completed, we were happy to design the Mile 25 overlook sign and highlight the history of this scenic location.

Boone to TJ Meenach:

We have submitted a letter of support for the City of Spokane as it seeks to upgrade this gap, which has numerous safety issues and shares important miles with Bloomsday.

Carlson Road: We have submitted a letter of support for Spokane County as it seeks to upgrade this gap in Riverside State Park.

Sontag Park to Lake Spokane Extension: State Parks will begin construction in August and we have pledged $20,000 in matching funds for this project.

Volunteer Highlights

Our Centennial Trail is blessed with amazing support. Thanks to these special volunteers who embrace our community treasure:

Len Zickler of ProjectTributa: Len is a walking encyclopedia of Cen
tennial Trail, urban planning and landscape architecture knowledge. From helping develop the Trail years ago to leading our Board of Directors this past year, Len has been a wise resource. Thank you for your service, Len!

Kathy Bagley of Kaiser Aluminum: Kathy has been our Adopt-a-Mile contact since 1995, coordinating their annual Unveil the Trail clean-up involvement. Kathy has recently "retired"  from this role and we thank her for 20 years of support!

Lisa Kirishian of Eide Bailly: We are a small non-profit and financial integrity is vital. Every year our IRS Form 990 is meticulously prepared by Lisa Kirishian and fellow staff at Eide Bailly and we are thankful for their expertise!

Sgt. Jason Robison and the Staff and Work Crew at Geiger Detention Center:  Their assistance stuffing and delivering 3,000 Bike Swap schwag bags was an enormous service to Spokane Bike Swap & Expo.  We appreciate their assistance!

Our Adopt-a-Mile partners:  For their Unveil the Trail clean-up work over Earth Day weekend in April.  Their volunteer time is valued at over $10,000 and all Trail users benefit from their generous partnership!

The secret of getting ahead is getting started," said Agatha Christie. Getting started on a more active and fit lifestyle is getting Tamara Kent and her husband, Joshua, ahead in life and work. Tamara is a two-year Bike Swap volunteer who blogs her story online. She explains how Bike Swap motivated her to buy an affordable road bike and train for her first sprint tri, which lead to completing a 100 mile bike ride in 2014. She now works at REI and shares her love of adventure and the outdoors at work.

Tamara is an energetic inspiration and it's wonderful how the Bike Swap and Centennial Trail have been an important part of her fitness journey.  Here's hoping your Centennial Trail is an important part of your active lifestyle!

My best,

Loreen McFaul, Executive Director
