Tobacco Free UT Arlington is entering its second year of being a tobacco-free campus, a decision that became official on August 1, 2011.

This change was made to improve the overall health of the University community by restricting the use of cigarettes, smokeless cigarettes, chewing tobacco, or any product containing tobacco on campus.

Last issue - renew your membership now!

As the start of the academic year approaches, The Parent & Family Center would like to remind you of the many benefits of the Association. The details of some of the most popular benefits are listed below, and a complete list can be found here

One exciting change we are making is to now provide an e-newsletter just for parents of upperclassman students. This will ensure that we are sending you the most pertinent information for your student as they continue their UTA journey to graduation.

If you have not done so already, do not forget to renew your membership by August 31, 2012. To show our appreciation, we are also providing each renewed membership with one free ticket to Parent and Family Weekend, which will be held October 26-28, 2012. This registration is a $30 value and includes breakfast, dinner, activities, and a t-shirt. Once you renew your membership, please send an email to parents@uta.edu stating that you would like to take advantage of your free Weekend registration.

Scholarship opportunities for your student

Any student who is affiliated with the Parent & Family Association may apply for the Parent & Family Association scholarship. Two $800 awards will be given every fall and spring semester. Each semester, one scholarship is awarded to a freshman student and the other is awarded to an upperclassman student. The fall 2012 application can be found online and is due by Sept. 28, 2012.

Free Scantrons and blue books for your student

Students may pick up these testing materials in the Parent & Family Center, which is located in the lower level of the University Center, Suite B150. They do not need your membership card or any form of ID to receive these materials.

Participation in the Mav Discount Program

Several Arlington-areas vendors will provide discounted rates to anyone with a UT Arlington ID, including students, staff, and Parent & Family Association members. Just mention that you have a UT Arlington ID to any of these vendors to receive the discount.

Monthly E-Newsletters

You will receive monthly e-newsletters like this one, keeping you informed about campus events and deadlines, changes to policies and procedures, and resources for you and your student. This year we will have two newsletters, one for parents of freshman students and one for parents of upperclassman students. This will ensure that we are sending you the most pertinent information for your student.

10% discount at UTA Bookstore

You will receive a 10% discount at the UTA Bookstore on apparel and gifts with your membership card.

Please also remember that if you ever have questions or concerns, the Parent & Family Center is standing by to help.  Just call 817-272-2128 or email parents@uta.edu, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Welcome Week Maverick Stampede (a.k.a. Welcome Week) is the official kick-off to the new academic year. This first week of classes is filled with fun and exciting programs centered on integrating new and returning students back to campus. Students are given the opportunity to participate in events throughout the week that will allow them to experience tradition, engage with their academic departments, meet other students, and overall become familiar with campus.

Maverick Stampede kicks off before classes begin with Residence Hall Move-in. Check out the events calendar to find out about all the exciting activities.
