Antiques Collectibles and Handcrafts Shows
Greetings!

Welcome to the 5th Tanners Marketplace Newsletter.

I would like to thank everyone

that participated in and attended the February show.  It was a lot of fun and the energy was very positive!  :-)

I've put up a link on the website to some photos taken at the show.

I'll add more as I get them.

The TV show "The Old House Antique Showcase"  filmed several episodes on Saturday morning at Tanner's.  It's a new local show that will feature people getting their antiques appraised similar to the "Road Show" program on PBS and conversations with people in the local antiques community.  Quite a few people brought their treasures in to be appraised and there was a steady line for most of the day.

The program will air every Sunday at 7:00 A.M. on the CW Network, channel 6 on Charter and ATT and channel 46 on Dish and Direct TV.  The 4 episodes that were shot at Tanners will air on the 4 Sundays in March.  They will be back filming at the April show too.

The April Show signup is live on the website and the link to the right. The show will be on the weekend of the 27th and 28th.

A lot of the spaces are already claimed. Previous vendors have first choice to get the same booths they had before.

I ask that you please log in and sign up as soon as you know you will be back for the April show even if you told me.  Some vendors told me at the Feb. show that they will be back and I've marked those spaces as already taken but I do need confirmation and the space rental deposits.

The Booth Layout and Dealer Spaces pages have been updated and I've added more options for those that couldn't open the PDF files.

If you are considering being a vendor at the show and have questions please look at the website and give me a call or send me an email.
First Come First Served for the open spaces so don't delay.

Again Thank You All for making the February show such a success!

Dan and Paula

If you get 2 newsletter emails then you may be on both the vendor list and the general list.

How old is that "doggy in the window"?

Actually an easy way to get an approximate age on an item is to look for the company's address; either on the original box or on the item itself. If there is a barcode it was made after 1974; the first commercial barcode showed up on a pack of Wrigley's gum in 1974 and became widespread around 1981 when the U.S. Government required the barcode on all items sold to the military.

  • Zip Codes started showing up in 1963 with Zip + 4 showing up in 1983
  • The two letter state abbreviations also started in 1963. MI = post 1963, Mich = pre 1963
  • From 1943 to 1963 large cities were divided up into Postal Zones; i.e. Detroit 4 Mich

These are just a few of the tricks to dating vintage items.

Help Spread The Word!

If you would like to help advertise the show we have created a flier with tear off tabs that you can print out and post on local bulletin boards or at your office. Many grocery stores etc. have places to post local events and every little bit helps get the word out. The more people that come the better everyone's sales will be!

Click Here for a Printable PDF file of a flier to post on local bulletin boards

If it doesn't print in color you may have to save it locally and open it in adobe Reader.

There are 3 fliers on each page.

We are open to any ideas that you have to let more collectors know about the show and get attendance up. On that note please click the Forward to a Friend link above and let anyone you think might be interested know about us.
Places to Stay:
A few people have asked if there are places to stay close to the Events Center.  The Events Center has RV spaces available (see the bottom of the show application page) and  there are several motels close by and the casinos are close too. Kayak.com lists some close by ones. You can narrow the search in the location box.:
A friend of mine stays at the SandsRegency Hotel Casino when he visits. They usually have some good deals going. I did a quick check and found their deals page:
Once he visited the first time they keep sending him free nights tickets.
Motel 6 is about a block away:
Days Inn is just a little further:
Americas Best Travel Inn is right at the freeway exit too:
There is a 24 hour Denny's and a Carrows restaurant very close. (walking dist. from motels, right at the freeway exit)
Let's make this a fun forum to keep interest and excitement up for the shows!

Sincerely,

Trivia Time
Berlin, Nevada, a ghost town, is the home of several ichthyosaur fossils, including some of the largest ever found, one is 55 feet long.  There are around 40 ichthyosaur skeletons that have been left where they were found and a building shelters them from the elements.  Berlin and its surrounding acres have been declared a state park and which is located about 150 miles east of Reno, Nevada.  The ichthyosaur is the Nevada State fossil.
