The Northeast Iowa Region Governor's STEM Advisory Council, located on the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) campus, believes it is important to bring our community together to advance the STEM movement that is transforming the nation.

Get Connected to STEM Volunteers at VolunteerIowa.org
Are you looking for community members to help advance your STEM programming? Statewide recruitment efforts through Million Women Mentors have identified 1,800 volunteers who would like to work with Iowa's youth to help drive interest in STEM.
It's time to get your organization listed on Volunteer Iowa's new statewide volunteer database, Get Connected today, so that these ready and willing volunteers are directed to your STEM programs. The process takes only 15 minutes:
- Visit the Volunteer Iowa website and click on "Post a Volunteer Opportunity" button in the right column.
- Select your local Volunteer Center based on county, then click "sign up" to create an account.
- Follow the prompts to create a profile and post opportunities.

2016 I.O.W.A. STEM Teacher Award (Nominations Open Monday, September 21, 2015)
Administrators, teachers, counselors, parents, students and other STEM advocates are invited to nominate an inspirational science, technology, engineering or mathematics teacher for the 2016 I.O.W.A. STEM Teacher Award, sponsored by Kemin Industries and the Iowa Governor's STEM Advisory Council.
Formally known as The STEM Education Award for Inspired Teaching, this award is dedicated to honoring one teacher from each of the six STEM regions for their contribution and dedication to STEM education in Iowa. Each winner will receive $1,500, as well as another $1,500 to be used in their classroom.
This award is dedicated to honoring teachers who are making a significant difference in the lives of students across the state by providing excellent curriculum, encouraging lifelong learning and inspiring a passion for STEM beyond the classroom and into the future.
Eligible nominees include licensed, full-time, K-12 Iowa STEM teachers in public or non-public schools. Nominations for previous 2015 award recipients and self-nominations will not be accepted. Click here to learn more.

Keynote: Dr. Christopher Emdin Rethinking STEM Dr. Christopher Emdin is a social critic, public intellectual, and science advocate whose commentary on issues of race, culture, inequality, and education have appeared in dozens of influential periodicals, including The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Forbes, and Atlanta Journal Constitution.
He is an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics, Science, and Technology at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he also serves as director of Secondary School Initiatives at the Urban Science Education Center.
Dr. Emdin is an expert on improving urban education, the intersection of hip-hop and education, STEM education, politics, race, class, diversity, and youth empowerment. He is also an advisor to numerous international organizations, school districts, and schools.

Exhibitor Registration is OPEN for the Cedar Valley Family STEM Festival
The third annual Cedar Valley Family STEM Festival will take place on Thursday, November 12 from 4:00 - 7:30 p.m. at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center, Waterloo, Iowa.
The goals of the festival are to promote, inspire and engage youth in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics activities and to introduce children and parents to STEM careers.
Who is Invited to Exhibit!
- Businesses with a STEM focus
- Institutions of higher education
- Community non-profit groups
- Government organizations
- Other organizations providing STEM education
There is no charge for exhibitors to participate, but all exhibitors are required to register. Register below.
The Cedar Valley Family STEM Festival is a community-wide partnership led by the Northeast Iowa Region Governor's STEM Advisory Council at the University of Northern Iowa, Waterloo Community Schools, Cedar Falls Community School District, AEA 267, Black Hawk County Extension and Outreach, Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber, Hawkeye Community College, University of Northern Iowa, John Deere, Grout Museum District, Volunteer Center of the Cedar Valley and the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center.
