Governor Andrew Cuomo today announced awards of approximately $100,000 each will be given to 83 communities across the state to support innovative micro-grid projects. These awards were granted as part of the NY Prize micro-grid competition to support a new generation of community-based power under Governor Cuomo's Reforming the Energy Vision strategy.
One of those projects has its sights on flood plains of Mamaroneck. The Village of Mamaroneck (VOM) Micro Grid project was conceived by Murphy Brothers Contracting with the help of Steven Winter Associates, a company with a long history of building performance and energy engineering, as part of Phase Two of Murphy Brothers' Mamaroneck Self Storage facility construction.
Village Mayor Norman Rosenblum is a member of the VOM Micro- Grid team. "The Village of Mamaroneck has long been pursuing efforts to strengthen our community and make our businesses and residents more resilient to the impacts of hurricanes, Nor'easters and other major storms, particularly as it relates to power outages and damages," said Mayor Rosenblum. "Since large portions of the Village are within FEMA mapped flood plains, with impacts from both tidal and riverine flooding, it is important to maintain power for these areas in order for them to operate sump pumps and other emergency equipment to protect structures. Murphy Brothers Congratulates
NYG&C Finalist Conte & Conte
Murphy Brothers Contracting extends a hearty congratulations to Landscape Architects Conte and Conte whose stunning English Garden design has been chosen as a finalist in the "Garden Design" category for the 2015 NYC&G Innovation in Design Awards. The garden project, a HBRA-HOBI Award winner as 'Best Outdoor Living Environment' was the inspiration of John Conte from a recent trip visiting various National Trust properties & gardens around the UK. It perfectly complements the main house and adjacent pool house. The Pool house, designed by Mitchell Wilk Architects and built by Murphy Brothers Contracting also was recognized with the HBRA-HOBI Award for "Best Pool House". The design of the pool house was envisioned to look and function like an extension of the main house, which happens to be designed as an English Castle, built in 1907. Certainly any Lord or Lady would feel right at home in these magnificent surroundings!
Conte & Conte LLC is an award-winning landscape architecture firm with offices in Greenwich, CT and Bedford, NY. The firm's philosophy is to enhance the relationship between people and their natural environment. For more information, click here.
