With hard-hats in place and shovels in hand, local officials helped Sean and Chris Murphy break ground for their latest service venture, Mamaroneck Self-Storage. Responding to a community need for additional storage space due to the buying and selling of homes, downsizing and the cost of office space, Mamaroneck Self Storage is a state-of-the-art 40,000 sf self-storage facility in the village of Mamaroneck, convenient to and from any part of the county. " We've been planning this facility for five years," said Sean Murphy, "and we're working with NYSEDA and Steven Winter Associates to make this a green building, featuring DOW Powerhouse™ Solar Shingles."
John Ravitz, Vice-President of the Westchester Business Council welcomed the group by saying, "The Murphy Brothers understand what it takes to start a family-owned business and to recruit and retain a workforce in our county. As their footprint grows in the Westchester, the Business Council is delighted to champion their success.
Joining the celebration were State Assemblyman Steven Otis, Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Norman Rosenblum, Village Trustees Louis Santoro and Andres Bermudez-Hallstrom, Hudson Valley Bank's Rose Silvestro, also representing the Village of Mamaroneck Chamber of Commerce, County Director of Economic Development Bill Mooney, and Deputy County Executive Kevin Plunkett.
Mr. Plunkett noting Murphy Brothers 35 years in business, their involvement in sustainable building and community service, lauded the company as "an economic engine, committed to Westchester, giving back to the community". On behalf of County Executive Rob Astorino, Mr. Plunkett presented Sean and Chris Murphy will a proclamation, declaring September 4th, 2014 as "Murphy Brothers Contracting Recognition Day in Westchester County".
The building's architect Kim Martelli was also in attendance. Mamaroneck Self-Storage, located at 416 Waverly Avenue Mamaroneck, NY should be in full operation by Labor Day weekend 2015.
