Solar Shingle First in Fairfield County

The Shore Road Project features another "first", being the first installation of Dow Powerhouse Solar Roof Shingles in Fairfield County. The Shore Road project is a new 2,700sf single family home located at 15 Shore Road in Old Greenwich, CT.

The 4.5 Kw system replaces over 600 SF of conventional roofing because the solar shingles ARE the roof.  Installed by Murphy Brothers Contracting and Matthew Roofing Company under the watchful eye of Dow Field Rep, Adam Sollner, the solar array not only compliments the home's attractive design, it will provide solar-generated electricity to the custom coastal colonial home, roughly half of its daily usage.

Designed by local architect Rex Gedney, the Shore Road Project also features the following:

  • Fully insulated concrete form (ICF) exterior wall construction
  • Closed-cell spray foam insulation where essential
  • Blue Jean insulation for Sound attenuation
  • Super energy-efficient air-source heat pump w/ ERV system
  • Water-saving plumbing fixtures and appliances
  • Instantaneous hot water unit (on-demand)
  • Energy-efficient Marvin & Andersen windows and doors

Murphy Brothers Contracting recently announced their partnership with DOW POWERHOUSE™ Solar Shingles as authorized dealer/installers in the Westchester Hudson Valley region and southern Fairfield County.  Solar Shingles differ from conventional solar panel systems in that they aren't on the roof, they actually are the roof.  Solar Shingles provide the same protection, durability and flexibility as asphalt, cedar or slate shingles. Visually appealing, they are designed to blend with standard roofs and normal home construction.  This is an excellent option for folks who want to take advantage of the environmental opportunity offered by sun's clean abundant energy plus the financially attractive government sponsored tax incentives, but are turned off by the unsightly look of conventional solar panel systems.

Ryan Schildwachter, Rising Star in 2014 Class of '40 Under 40'

Murphy Brothers Contracting Cabinet Shop manager Ryan Schildwachter was chosen among forty of Westchester County's best and brightest to receive the 2014 "Rising Star" Award, The Business Council of Westchester recently announced.

This year's winners represent a wide-range of professionals from various backgrounds including law, government, media, politics, education, the arts, and fine woodworking! The honorees are among the finest young talents in Westchester County and work with some of the region's best companies and institutions. With more than 100 nominations this year, the selections were competitive.  "We are delighted to honor these great talents in Westchester County," said Dr. Marsha Gordon, President and CEO of the Business Council of Westchester.

"Ryan is as comfortable cutting a piece of rare wormy chestnut for a custom countertop as he is talking to a group of architects or designers about that it takes to design that beautiful custom-made countertop with the same valuable piece of wood", said Chris Murphy.  "I personally enjoy bringing first-time visitors into our shop and introducing them to Ryan. His first enthusiastic words, with a big smile, are always 'Welcome to the wood shop!'  I invite you to stop by sometime and I'll show you exactly what I mean."

The winners will receive their Rising Star award during a ceremony on June 12 at 800 Westchester Avenue, White Plains. The program is modeled after the national business recognition program "Forty under Forty" and Rising Stars is specifically designed to recognize individuals under the age of 40 who exemplify leadership, foresight and a vision for the future of Westchester County. Winners were selected based on professional and/or entrepreneurial accomplishments, demonstrated leadership qualities and professional and/or business affiliations.
