Shore Road Project Update

 |
The A-Team: the builder with Lois Arena, and architect Rex Gedney
|
Our exciting Shore Road Project in Old Greenwich is attracting a lot of attention in the area residential design community for its innovative energy-efficient construction methods. On April 8th, Brian Medford, FoxBlocks NE regional manager, will be sharing with local architects on an "Introduction to Insulating Concrete Forms" (ICFs) in our conference room. The following day, April 9th, Ms. Lois Arena, CPHD, Senior Building Systems Engineer with Steven Winter Associates will be conducting a "blower door test", while instructing on the "whys & wherefores", and to determine the home's HERS Rating (Home Energy Rating System) or level of energy-efficiency. Following the test, Brian Medford will conduct an on-site project tour to explain construction methods using FoxBlocks ICFs. The project is scheduled for completion in mid-May.

Renowned Irish Passive House expert, Tomas O'Leary, offered an informative and entertaining presentation on "Passive House Design" for area architects and building design professionals at Molly Spillane's Pub & Restaurant in Mamaroneck, NY this past month. Mr. Leary is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of the Passive House Academy, as well a founding partner at MosArt Architects, Dublin and New York City. He is also the dweller of the first Certified Passive House in the English-speaking world.
"The Passive House introduction session in Mamaroneck was full to the rafters and the level of excitement and interest in this future-proofed building performance standard was exhilarating." Remarked Mr. O'Leary. Passive House is considered by many architects & designers to be the world's leading energy efficiency and comfort standard. The session primarily focused on the Passive House approach to the five key principles of insulation, thermal bridging, air-tightness, windows and mechanical ventilation.
Sponsored by Klearwall, makers of energy-saving windows and doors, and Murphy Brothers, the lively presentation also covered the NYSERDA tuition incentive program which offers to pay 70% of the tuition cost for Passive House designer & builder training.

Three Things You Should Know...
|
...When Purchasing Custom Cabinetry for Your Kitchen Renovation Project.
 1. Look at your life style, how do you use your kitchen now? 2. What is it about your old kitchen you want to specifically change? 3. How much storage space do you need? Because you are already specifying "custom cabinetry" you want to focus on what you need functionally before you focus on the aesthetics. The visually beautiful options are ALMOST infinite and are part of the custom cabinetry process by nature. Our thanks to Ryan Schildwachter, manager of Murphy Brothers Millworks. Thought about a beautifully designed custom kitchen, library, wet bar or master bath vanity for your home? Our mill shop is the area's authorized fabricator/installer of Richlite recycled paper countertops and architectural panels of cabinetry (Plyboo Bamboo Plywood Architectural Panels & Plyboo Tambour Architectural Panels).
