Local Businesses Lend Helping Hands to Habitat for Humanity on Veterans Day

All hands were on deck on Veterans' Day November 11th when Interstate+Lakeland Lumber, Andersen Windows and Murphy Brothers Contracting joined Habitat for Humanity of Westchester (HFHWC) during the Veterans blitz build-a-thon. They added the all-important energy-efficient touches on the first two homes renovated for the HFHWC Veterans' Initiative completing the installation of all the new windows.

HFHWC has a major commitment to build for returning Veterans, repair homes for seniors, and hire Veterans. HFHWC currently has four Veterans on staff, Air Force, Marines, Navy, and Army. Five homes are underway and a target for 50 over the next five years. Andersen Windows and Interstate + Lakeland Lumber teamed up to donate all the energy-efficient 400 series Andersen windows for these two homes as well as committing to get involved on the next rehab project as well.

"When Sean and Chris Murphy called and asked if I would help them out with a home for vets project, I immediately asked, what do you need? To me, the veterans of this country deserve all of the support that we can give them. They are the ones who put themselves in harm's way so that we can enjoy the freedom that exists in this great country of ours. On behalf of everyone at Interstate+Lakeland Lumber, it is with great pride and pleasure to be part of this project that gives back to someone who gave so much of himself for us," stated Sheldon Kahan, President of Interstate+Lakeland Lumber.

"Nobody builds community better than Habitat!  At Andersen we've been one of their biggest champions for more than 20 years. Building quality, affordable housing for families in need will be a key part of the rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Sandy. We are honored to partner with our friends at Interstate+Lakeland Lumber and Murphy Brothers Contracting to lend a hand," said Jerry Redmond, president, Andersen Windows.
