Murphy Brothers Contracting was chosen to receive the first annual Family-Owned Business Award presented by the Westchester Business Journal. The event was held at Mapleton at Good Counsel in White Plains and attended by over 150 from the area business community. Family-owned companies were grouped according to length of time in business with award categories for companies 51 years and older, 26 years to 50 years, and 5 to 25 years in business.
Starting out as a local remodeling company in 1979, Murphy Brothers have expanded to custom home construction, whole home renovation and light commercial construction projects, including golf, boating, beach and tennis clubs, throughout the Westchester Hudson Valley region and southern Fairfield County. The company offers its clients general contracting, construction management and owner representative services.
The judges were Anthony Davidson, Dean of the school of Graduate and Professional Studies at Manhattanville College in Purchase NY, Dr. Marsha Gordon, president and CEO of The Business Council of Westchester, and John Ritacco, president and CEO of CMS Bank headquartered in White Plains, NY. The other winners were Red Oak Transportation in the 51 year and older category, and Adcorp Media Group in the 5 to 25 year category.
