Davidson Non-Profit Consulting (DNC) is student-lead organization that partners with non-profits to accelerate social change. We're looking for students who want to make an impact in the outside community and apply what they've learned to real-world situations. DNC would appreciate psychology majors on virtually all of our projects but one project in this semester may be particularly appealing. We are partnering with an organization called Green Teacher Network (GTN) to design and carry out a social experiment observing the effects of GTN's garden curriculum on student's food habits outside of the classroom.

We'll be hosting two info sessions. Come join us on Tuesday September 1st at 7:00 PM in Chambers 1003 or Wednesday September 8th at 11:05 PM in Chambers 2068 to learn about our project opportunities this semester. For questions or if you're interested but cannot attend either info session email Neal Houston at nehouston@davidson.edu .
Student News
Gillian Highet '17 writes, "Last fall, I was lucky enough to study abroad in New Zealand for a semester. My dad is from New Zealand, and his siblings and cousins all still live there with their children.  This summer, I began collaboration with Dr. Leyva to look at an interesting dataset from the University of Otago in New Zealand, the same university that I studied at while abroad. The data we are using looks at maternal involvement and its impact on the development of both memory and language in New Zealand children. We have access to transcripts compiled by the two principal researchers, (Elaine Reese and Elizabeth Schaughency) that Dr. Leyva and I are working together to code into quantitative data that we can begin to analyze. This semester I will create a research proposal and in the spring I will begin writing my thesis. I am very excited to see what we discover through our research and am thrilled about the opportunity to study my favorite area of psychology with data collected from my favorite place in the world.  P.S. The photo was taken in Mount Cook, very near Christchurch in NZ."

Good luck, Gillian!
