Abbey Driscoll '16 writes, "I'll be working as a project coordinator on two autism treatment studies at Ohio State University in Columbus. My primary role will be to communicate with families and providers to organize appointments and materials, but I'll also be helping with recruitment, data management, and IRB requirements. The Psychiatry and Psychology departments at OSU are quite research-prolific, so new project coordinator positions come up all the time. I'd love to talk to any seniors who have questions or would be interested in a similar position!" You can reach her at abbeywdriscoll@gmail.com
Congratulations, Abbey!

The Center for Understanding and Treating Anxiety at the Joint Doctoral Program of San Diego State University/University of California San Diego invites applications for two-year full-time paid research coordinator position beginning September, 2016. The Center specializes in cognitive-behavioral therapy for anxiety disorders. The research coordinator will work on multiple NIMH-sponsored projects that examine a brief, computerized intervention for anxiety disorders and its effect on electroencephalogram (EEG). Responsibilities will include: coordination of a translational research project, patient assessments, data entry, data analysis, consultation with patients and staff, and collaborative program building across the clinic. Applicants should possess excellent interpersonal skills. Qualifications include a MA/MS or BA/BS in psychology (Masters Degree preferred) or related field. More in-depth research interests in information processing bias and link to biological markers (EEG, fMRI) a plus. Applications received by August 10, 2016 are assured consideration. However, applications will be accepted until positions are filled. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Send letter of interest and CV including the names of three references to: Nader Amir, PhD, Director, The Center for Understanding and Treating Anxiety, SDSU/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology, 6386 Alvarado Court, Suite 301, San Diego, CA 92120-4913. On This Day: 01 August
1744 - Jean Lamarck was born. Lamarck's theory of inheritance of acquired traits was an early brand of evolutionary theory that continues to intrigue biologists and psychologists.
1829 - Ivan M. Sechenov was born. Sechenov proposed that all mental processes and behavior operate as reflexes of the brain, arising through contiguous association. His reduction of cognitive processes to neural origins was farsighted but little known outside of his native Russia. Ivan Pavlov's thinking was influenced by Sechenov.
1918 - Frances K. Graham was born. Her test for brain damage, the Graham-Kendall Memory for Designs Test, and her studies of the orienting reflex, heart rate change, and reflexive blinking in infants are well-known. APA Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award, 1990; American Psychological Society William James Fellow, 1990.
1952 - The final draft of the APA's first Ethical Standards of Psychologists was submitted to the APA Council of Representatives, who formally adopted it as policy the next day. Over 1,000 cases involving professional ethics were submitted by APA members in the process of generating this first code of ethics.
1958 - Allen Newell, Marvin E. Shaw, and Herbert A. Simon's article "Elements of a Theory of Human Problem Solving" was published in Psychological Review. The article was the first exposition of the information-processing approach in psychology.
1966 - Norman R. Draper and Harold Smith's book, Applied Regression Analysis, was published. By 1981, this book had been cited in over 2,760 other publications and was featured as a "citation classic" by the journal Current Contents.
