A SNEAK PEEK AT NORTHWESTERN'S PSYCHOLOGY PHD PROGRAMS
Northwestern University's Psychology Department is hosting a program on Friday, June 3rd and Saturday, June 4th for undergraduates who are members of groups that are traditionally underrepresented in academia (including first-generation college students), and who are potentially interested in pursuing graduate study in psychology. Activities will include a workshop designed to help with the graduate school application process and opportunities to meet psychology department faculty members and graduate students to learn what graduate school is like and how they might fit into the various psychology graduate programs (e.g., clinical, social, cognitive neuroscience, etc.). Travel and accommodation costs associated with participation will be covered, and the application process will be fast and free ( applications are due by April 14th @ 5 pm). For more information, please see the program website http://www.psychology.northwestern.edu/diversity/sneak-peek.html

- Students working with faculty on research, either as research assistants or collaboratively as research fellows, are eligible to apply for summer housing grants. Students must be doing research on campus for a minimum of six (6) weeks and paying rent either on or off campus. Students who live at home or in other rent-free arrangements are not eligible to apply. Factors considered in grantmaking include number of applications (as grant dollars are limited), financial need as confirmed by the Financial Aid Office, and length of time working on campus. Please note that students must be classified as Research Fellows or Research Assistants. Summer housing applications are due Friday, April 15 to Leslie Marsicano in Chambers 1202 (across from the Registrar's Office).
- Late applications may not be considered.

Emily Covert '16 has news: "After graduation, I will begin a research position with the Institute of Human Virology through the NIH IRTA program. I will be in Baltimore, MD, working at the University of Maryland School of Medicine where I will spend one to two years before hopefully attending medical school. This team has dozens of current projects, primarily involving HIV and Hepatitis B/C. I am so excited for the opportunity to further my research experience working in such an impactful biomedical field!" Congratulations, Emily!

University of East Anglia's 2016 International Summer School course entitled "Psychological Research in Practice"
Our accredited course offers an intensive four week research experience. Students will learn about and use various experimental techniques such as eye-tracking, EEG, and motion-tracking in our state of the art laboratory facilities. The course focuses on developing an understanding of empirical research methods. Students bring together what they have learned during the course in a small research project. At the end of the course students will present their results in a conference-style poster session.
The University of East Anglia is a UK top 20 university. The campus is set in 320 acres of rolling parkland, two miles from the medieval city centre of Norwich. This course is part of our International Summer School program, which includes organised social programs. Summer Research at Wake Forest University
I am the Behaviorist Program Coordinator at the Wake Forest Baptist Health Weight Management Center in Winston-Salem. I'm getting in touch because our program is looking for undergraduate psychology students who might be interested in a research experience this summer. My Director & I have a need for summer interns to commit 10-20 hours/week for research tasks (data entry, etc.). The position is unpaid, as we don't have a budget for stipend. However, we can offer a few perks to incentivize participation: potential for participation in larger (poster session) projects, potential gateway experience into graduate school, etc. We are aware that Davidson provides a rich array of opportunity for your students in this regard. We would like to add our program to your list of possibilities, & invite interested students, who are not already committed elsewhere, to join us this summer.
As your Spring semester winds down, please consider holding up the Wake Forest Baptist Health Weight Management Center as an avenue for research experience. If your students show interest, they may contact me using the information below.
Thank you in advance for your kind consideration,

On This Day: 11 April
1861 - An aphasic patient named Leborgne entered Paul Broca's surgical ward at the Bicêtre asylum. Leborgne was called "Tan" because, except for occasional curses, it was his only word. He died on April 17, giving Broca the opportunity to do the critical autopsy that resulted in identification of the language centers of the brain.
1915 - John I. Lacey was born. Lacey's research, with Beatrice C. Lacey, has integrated neurophysiological and psychophysiological events and theories. The relation between cardiovascular activity, attention, and sensorimotor activity has served as the proving ground of their theories. APA Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award, 1976; Ameican Psychological Foundation Psychological Science Gold Medal, 1985.
1963 - George Sperling's article "A Model for Visual Memory Tasks" was published in Human Factors.
1966 - William Masters and Virginia Johnson's book Human Sexual Response was published. Masters and Johnson's research attracted widespread popular attention and had important effects on the practice of psychological counseling.
1990 - Eleanor E. Maccoby's article "Gender and Relationships: A Developmental Account" was published in the American Psychologist. The article was originally delivered as an APA Distinguished Scientific Contributions Award to the 1989 APA convention in New Orleans and was frequently cited by other authors after its publication.
