Alum News

Adam Hunter '15 writes, "I am tremendously happy to announce that I'm heading to UNC School of Medicine in August! It was my first choice from the beginning, and I can't believe how well everything has worked out. . . It's a great time to be a psych major pursuing a career in medicine. Majoring in psychology gave me a tremendous advantage on the Behavioral Sciences section of the new MCAT, and provided experiences performing rat neurosurgery (Behavioral Neuroscience), shadowing neurology at CMC (Functional Neuroanatomy), discussing psychiatric drugs and interventions (Clinical Psychopharmacology), and doing an extended research project for my thesis that I was able to emphasize during interviews. If you're interested in a health profession and have questions about courses to take, the application process, or interviews, please email me at adhunter15@alumni.davidson.edu."

Andrea Kunz '13 writes, "In May I will enroll in the University of Florida's  Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, which will run until August 2017. Following its conclusion, I plan to continue my education with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice, with a focus in psychiatry. Thank you for your continual support; I am very excited to share this news with you!  However, this transition means that I will be leaving my current job at UF, and the position will be open in May. I am an assistant to Dr. Ben Phalin, who is the neuropsychologist at the Florida Recovery Center at UF, and the primary responsibility of my job is to administer neuropsychological tests. Given that my experience assisting in data collection in your lab ultimately led me into this position, I wanted to pass along some information about the job for any students seeking post-graduation opportunities who might be interested (or perhaps for Psych Snippets). [See the Opportunities section below for a brief description of the job and its requirements]. If students have any questions they shouldn't hesitate to contact me or Dr. Phalin. We'd be happy to discuss the position in more detail."  Andrea's email address is kunz@ufl.edu

Living in Singapore: Singapore is a bustling, cosmopolitan city-state with a multi-ethnic population of 5.4 million. Standards of living match if not exceed those of major industrialized countries, with per capita GDP ranking third highest in the world. English is widely spoken and used in education, business, and government. Singapore is a vibrant hub for business, with many of the Fortune 500 companies having their Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore. Being at a crossroads within Asia, Singapore offers a broad range of regional recreation and travel opportunities. Given Singapore's low tax rates, net after-tax compensation would significantly exceed salaries for equivalent positions in North America and Europe.
