CABE STUDENT VIDEO AWARDS ON CAREERS IN PSYCHOLOGY
In 2016, the APA Committee on Associate and Baccalaureate Education (CABE) will give two awards to undergraduate students who produce the best interview videos of someone working in a psychology-related field. The clinical research coordinator obtains consent/assessment and coordinates data collection for an effectiveness study of a resilience-based group intervention, the Resilience Builder Program® (RBP), at both a private practice and low-income schools within Washington, DC. The clinical research coordinator aids in the search for grant opportunities and assists in literature reviews, training RA's, and with grant applications. The clinical research coordinator also helps with clinical duties including managing phone calls from prospective clients and refers them to one of our clinicians. The research coordinator will also assist in scoring research outcome measures. Further, s/he will assist in the preparation and appropriate documentation for our APA-approved Continuing Education workshops.
The position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, with a preference for those with a Master's degree in Psychology. Two year minimum commitment required. Salary is competitive and includes benefits. Some unique benefits include access to APA approved continuing education programs offered throughout the year and the ability to gain clinical experience through co-leading groups, if desired. Position opens July 1, in the Rockville office, but candidate may start as late as end of July. Training will be provided by current clinical research coordinator who is moving on to start her Ph.D. program!

Preparing & Applying for Grad School in Psychology

This series of 12 videos takes prospective graduate students step-by-step through the preparation, application, interview and admission processes. The presenters combine decades of advising experience and research findings with evidence-based and anxiety-reducing strategies for mastering each step. Each video is 20-25 min and there is a link for supplemental handouts.

On This Day: 15 February
1856 - Emil Kraepelin was born. Kraepelin was a founder of modern psychiatry and psychopharmacology. He devised an early nomenclature for mental disorders, including new terms such as manic-depressive and paranoid.
1885 - Hans Henning was born. Henning's work was on the senses of smell and taste. He identified six primary scents and four primary tastes and identified chemical analogs of these primary perceptions.
1902 - The first scientific papers were read to the British Psychological Society. James Sully presented "The Evolution of Laughter," William McDougall presented "Fechner's Paradoxical Experiment," and W. G. Smith presented "Pathological Changes in Immediate Memory and Association."
1910 - Ralph F. Hefferline was born. Hefferline was a behavior analyst whose work on operant conditioning of thumb movements demonstrated conditioning of behaviors without the participant's awareness. Hefferline also had an interest in Fritz Perls's Gestalt therapy. Popular psychologist Joyce Brothers completed her doctoral dissertation under Hefferline's supervision.
1934 - Paul Ekman was born. Ekman's research has related emotional state to nonverbal behavior, with special emphasis on facial expression and nonverbal correlates of lying and deception. His cross-cultural studies have demonstrated universals of emotional expression. APA Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award, 1991.
1966 - Julian Rotter's monograph Generalized Expectancies for Internal Versus External Control of Reinforcement was published in Psychological Monographs. By 1982, this article had been cited over 2,735 times and was featured as a "citation classic" by the journal Current Contents.
