Get tickets for Wearn Lecture
The Wearn Lecture takes place on Monday, November 2 at 7pm in Tyler-Tallman Hall. The 2015-16 Wearn Lecturer is Vilayanur S. Ramachandran, Director of the Center for Brain and Cognition, Distinguished Professor with the Psychology Department and Neurosciences Program at the University of California, San Diego, and Adjunct Professor of Biology at the Salk Institute. His talk is titled What Neurology Can Tell Us About the Human Mind. The lecture will illustrate how strange syndromes such as phantom limbs and synesthesia can give us fundamental insights into elusive questions about the mind, such as body image and creativity. Ramachandran is renowned for his work in neurology and perceptual psychology. He has been called the "Marco Polo of neuroscience" by Oxford's Richard Dawkins, and "The modern Paul Broca" by Nobel Laureate Eric Kandel. TIME Magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Tickets are free, but required, and are available at the ticket office in the Union, or online at www.davidson.edu/tickets. Tickets will be available to Davidson students, faculty, and staff starting Sep. 28 and are limited to two tickets per Davidson ID.

Congratulations, Dr. Good!
Recent Presentation
Dr. Good traveled to the University of Maine last week as the 2015 Stanley Sue Distinguished Diversity Speaker within the Clinical Psychology program. She gave a research talk entitled, Framing diversity: Emphasize similarity or embrace differences?  Her visit was co-sponsored by the Univ. of Maine ADVANCE Rising Tide Center. These centers exist at major research universities around the country, funded by the National Science Foundation's ADVANCE program, which seeks to increase representation of women and minorities in STEM fields. Dr. Good gave a workshop for faculty and grad students associated with the Center, entitled, Facilitating climate change for female STEM faculty and students.

While in Maine, Dr. Good caught up with Hannah Lawrence '12, who is currently in her 3r d year of the Clinical Psychology doctoral program. Hannah is specializing in Developmental Clinical, but is collaborating with faculty across the psychology department, working on several different projects. One project in particular is adapting Cyberball (a social exclusion manipulation) for use with preschool children.

Congratulations to Dr. Good on these prestigious invitations!

(Davidson's own professor of psychology emerita) Ruth Ault, Director of the Office of Teaching Resources in Psychology is pleased to announce a new resource, Psychology Career Advice Videos (2015) by Kit Nast (Bishop State Community College). This 5-page resource describes how videos on the website www.drkit.org may be used to help students as they determine which careers and college degrees to pursue. The site is especially useful for high school, college, and graduate students in all majors, but especially in psychology. Teachers, professors, and parents may also find these resources to be useful as they assist their students or children. The resource is available at http://www.apadiv2.org/page-1603066 under the advising tab.
