Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend. Click to learn more.
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

North Carolina Mountain Arts Adventure - Studio Tour
Artists and craftspeople living in Alleghany County will gather to offer an adventurous art journey in June and again in October. Sixteen studios and galleries will host the celebration of creativity. Get to know the artists and craftspeople, watch them at work, and shop in their unique studio and gallery settings. As you follow the tour map, you will navigate your way through an area rich in natural beauty, an area that is home to the NC Mountain Arts Adventure. Sparta, N.C. (Hours may vary on Sunday.) October 14-16.

Doughton Park Day at the Bluffs
Make plans to join us for Doughton Park Day at the Historic Bluffs Lodge (Milepost 241.1 on the Blue Ridge Parkway) on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 11a-4p. Bring your own picnic, chairs or blankets and enjoy local and regional musical performances throughout the day. This is a FREE event and open to the public. In the event of rain, the celebration will move to the Emerson Black Building at the Alleghany Fairgrounds in Sparta, NC. 336-372-5473.

22nd Annual Hillbilly Comedy & Variety Show
Join us for music, comedy, and impersonations on Saturday, October 15 at 7 pm. Tickets available at the door: Adults $6, kids 6-12 $3, under 6 Free Admission. To benefit the Alleghany Planning Committee supporting low income families and individuals of Alleghany County. There will also be a 50/50 drawing and a gift raffle. Join us for the fun at the Alleghany Community Auditorium, 450 Main St, Sparta.
Alleghany Jubilee Happenings!
Join us for the Hillbilly Hoedown with Rise and Shine Band every Tuesday night. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, age 12 and under free. Hours are 7-10pm with all ages welcome, unless otherwise noted.

Weekly Rotary Program
The Club meets every Thursday at 7am in the Alleghany Memorial Hospital Solarium for a buffet breakfast and program. Visitors are welcome.

Little Free Library Community Challenge

The Alleghany County Library will hold a 'Free Little Library Community Challenge' during October as our way of celebrating Fire Safety Month. These little free libraries have been built by local volunteers and are now on display at the library. Votes will be taken through Wednesday, October 26. The first and second place vote winners will win an award for one of our community fire departments and donations will be accepted during the month for our local fire departments. A reception will be held on Thursday, October 27 at 5pm at the library and winning fire departments will be announced. 336-372-5573.
Annual Trunk or Treat
Celebrate Halloween at Trunk or Treat in Crouse Park. Decorate your vehicle for young ones to get treats from your trunk, under your hatch or pickup bed. Costume contest at 6 p.m. Prizes for best costume and best vehicle decoration. Games: Corn hole toss, skat games and others. Concessions available. Open to any and all. 336-372-5473.
