Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend. Click to learn more.

Small Business Center: The Basics of Selling on eBay
A great seminar for the 'beginner' or the entrepreneur wanting to make eBay a primary business tool. Part 1, Oct. 6, 6-9 pm: Learn best practices to use when setting up an account, listing items for sale, taking payments, and shipping. Walk Out of Darkness

Alleghany Lives! is sponsoring a suicide prevention and depression awareness walk on October 9th, 2016. The walk begins at 1 pm at Sparta United Methodist Church and ends at Crouse Park. North Carolina Mountain Arts Adventure - Studio Tour
Artists and craftspeople living in Alleghany County will gather to offer an adventurous art journey in June and again in October. Sixteen studios and galleries will host the celebration of creativity. Get to know the artists and craftspeople, watch them at work, and shop in their unique studio and gallery settings. As you follow the tour map, you will navigate your way through an area rich in natural beauty, an area that is home to the NC Mountain Arts Adventure. Sparta, N.C. (Hours may vary on Sunday.) Doughton Park Day at the Bluffs
Make plans to join us for Doughton Park Day at the Historic Bluffs Lodge (Milepost 241.1 on the Blue Ridge Parkway) on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 11a-4p. 22nd Annual Hillbilly Comedy & Variety Show
Join us for music, comedy, and impersonations on Saturday October 15 at 7p. Tickets available at the door: Adults $6, kids 6-12 $3, under 6 Free Admission. To benefit the Alleghany Planning Committee supporting low income families and individuals of Alleghany County. There will also be a 50/50 drawing and a gift raffle. New River Hay Ride Celebrate Autumn with a hay ride through New River State Park. Join a park ranger on a fall hay ride where we will stop and hear about the New River and Autumn leaves. Space is limited, so you must PRE-REGISTER! Call the park office at 336-982-2587 for more information or to register. Make sure to bring warm clothes and/or a blanket. After the hay ride, join us in the Visitor Center for "Nature, Culture and Community on the New River" presented by members of Appalachian State University's Appalachian Studies Program.

Nature, Culture and Community - Come out to the New River State Park 221 Access Visitor Center on Saturday, October 8 at 3p for the free presentation which explores the important relationship between human communities and river systems, drawing upon both natural history and cultural heritage. This will be an informative presentation incorporating live music, historical images and tips for keeping a clean, vibrant and healthy river. For more info call 336-957-8185.
