 Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6p. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

The town of Sparta offers a variety of art galleries, apparel and accessory stores, gift shops, restaurants and even an old fashioned hardware store. Click here to learn more about the merchants in downtown Sparta.
 Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
 Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.
Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Tour de Mountains
A day of bicycling up, down and around the Blue Ridge Mountains that surround the community of Sparta, NC. You choose your ride distance with 16, 35, 66 and 100 mile planned loops. Rides provide fully stocked rest stops every 10 to 15 miles and SAG support. This ride is on Saturday, June 11. Registration day of ride starts at 7:30a, ride starts at 8:30a. VFW Chicken BBQ

NC Mountain Arts Adventure Studio Tour
Artists and craftspeople living in Alleghany County will gather to offer an adventurous art journey on June 17-19, from 10a-5p. Sixteen studios and galleries will host the celebration of creativity. Get to know the artists and craftspeople, watch them at work, and shop in their unique studio and gallery settings. As you follow the tour map, you will navigate your way through an area rich in natural beauty, an area that is home to the NC Mountain Arts Adventure. Sparta, N.C. (Hours may vary on Sunday.) New River Shriner's Duck Race
Join in on the fun on Saturday, June 18, at noon at Una's River Bottom sponsored by the New River Shrine Club. There will be food, fun, games and a bounce house. Admission is free. Taste of Alleghany
Alleghany Farmer's Market presents Taste of Alleghany on Saturday, June 18th at 6:30 pm at the Alleghany Farmer's Market pavilion on E Whitehead St, Sparta, NC. Meet local growers and producers while enjoying a mouthwatering Farm to Table dinner. Tickets are $35 each, $65 for two, or $250 for eight. Alleghany JAM Golf Tournament
Join us for our annual golf tournament, dinner, and concert at High Meadows Country Club on June 20. The format is Captain's choice with a shotgun start at 1pm. Dinner will begin at 6:00PM followed by our concert featuring Wayne Henderson & Helen White, and our Alleghany JAM Staff Band and students. We'll have a live auction featuring one of a kind hand painted instruments, a hand knitted sweater (designed especially for JAM), a hand made classical guitar, and other exciting items. Alleghany Jubilee Happenings!
Join us for the Hillbilly Hoedown with Rise and Shine Band every Tuesday night. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, age 12 and under free. Hours are 7-10p with all ages welcome, unless otherwise noted.

Saturday, June 11
Guided Canoe Trip - Come and canoe the New River with a park ranger. Learn the history of the river and basic canoe instruction while you enjoy a leisurely trip down the New. Wear clothing and shoes suitable for the water. Please be aware that the water temperature is cooler than the air. Meet at New River State Park's 221 Access, Visitor Center. Life vest will be fitted at the Visitor Center prior to departure. The trip is limited to 10 people, so please call the park office for a reservation. There is a small fee per person to cover the cost of shuttle service. 336-982-2587.
