Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6p. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Adult Relaxation Coloring Class

Music on Main
Join your friends and neighbors for our Music on Main Street, Sparta, starting the first Friday of June (3rd) and running through the first Friday in October. 5K For a Cure
A fundraiser for the Alleghany County Relay For Life hosted by the Grayson National Bank team. The race will take place on June 4, 2016 at the Alleghany Wellness Center starting at 8:00AM with the cost of $20. If you sign up by May 21 you will receive a free T-shirt. 4th Annual Golf Tournament for Lady Trojan Basketball
Join us at New River Golf Course on Saturday, June 4th for a round of Captains Choice. There will also be the following contests: Shoot the Green, Longest Drive, and Hole in One. Registration is from 7:15-7:45 am with the tournament starting at 8 am. Lunch will be starting at 12p. Prizes include (4) Rounds of golf at Olde Beau Country Club, Cart & Greens Fees included. Cost: $200 per 4 person team. Hole Sponsorship available for $50. All proceeds go to the Lady Trojan Basketball Team. For info call 336-520-8396.
National Trails Day
The Northern Highlands Chapter of Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway is hosting a guided hike of Doughton Park on June 4, 2016. The hike begins at 10a and will traverse Doughton Park along the Bluff Mountain Trail for 7.5 miles and end at the Basin Cove Overlook. Rides will be provided to return hikers to the start of the trail. Register at [email protected] with NTD2016 in the subject line and the names of the people attending the hike. You may also register the morning of the hike at the Brinegar Cabin parking area, mile post 238. Tour de Mountains
A day of bicycling up, down and around the Blue Ridge Mountains that surround the community of Sparta, NC. You choose your ride distance with 16, 35, 66 and 100 mile planned loops. Rides provide fully stocked rest stops every 10 to 15 miles and SAG support. This ride is on Saturday, June 11. Registration day of ride starts at 7:30a, ride starts at 8:30a. Ride for Readers
Make plans for your own ride or leave from Freeborne's Eatery & Lodge at 9:30a on Saturday, June 11, for the Ride for Readers, Cars and Motorcycles. $30 for Riders; $20 per Passenger; children under 12 FREE. WCC-Alleghany Center Announces STEAM Academy
Summer opportunities for sixth through ninth graders in Alleghany county are gaining steam as Wilkes Community College's GEAR UP program has announced its STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Academy offerings. Students can select from nine courses where they will combine learning and fun. Each course costs $30 and includes lunch. For more information, visit the GEAR UP webpage.

Alleghany Jubilee Happenings!
Join us for the Hillbilly Hoedown with Rise and Shine Band every Tuesday night. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, age 12 and under free. Hours are 7-10p with all ages welcome, unless otherwise noted.
