 Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6p. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

 Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
 Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.
Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Taco Lunch Fundraiser
The Alleghany Wellness Center will be holding a Taco Lunch Fundraiser on Thursday, April 7th from 11 am until 2 pm. The meal includes Tacos, Black Bean Salad with Citrus Dressing, Dessert and a drink. Cost $8 ($1 from each sale goes to Relay For Life). Purchase your tickets in advance at the Wellness Center and then stop by on the 7th to pick up your meal to go! 508 Collins Road, Sparta. 336-372-2944

James & the Giant Peach
The University of North Carolina-Greensboro Theatre for Young People will be performing the play, James and the Giant Peach, on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at 1p in the Sparta School Auditorium. Students in grades 2nd-5th will be attending from all schools in the county. There is also an evening performance at 7p, Adults $5, under 12 FREE. No unaccompanied children, please.  Join us in Sparta for a magical & musical Business After Hours at the Priser Theater, 22 South Main Street, on Thursday, April 7th from 5-7p. Music by Changing Lanes, a few tricks by Magician Ken Pulliam, and some laughs & Kettle Corn from Hillbilly Wes. Refreshments provided.

Old Time Square Dance
This fundraiser for the Alleghany JAM will be located at the Sparta VFW on April 8th, from 7-10 pm. BBQ will be served starting at 6 pm, and at 8:30 pm there will be a Cakewalk and Alleghany JAM dancers exhibition. Music provided by Ricky Johnson. Please call in advance to reserve your BBQ plate. Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports
A FREE workshop for parents and families of children of all ages, children with special needs, teachers, and other professionals. All materials (on CD) and a light supper will be provided at no cost. Grants Offered to Fund Projects for Local Non-Profits
 The Alleghany County Community Foundation is currently accepting grant requests for project funding. Funds are available for nonprofit organizations serving charitable needs in Alleghany County. Weekly Rotary Program
 The Club meets every Thursday at 7 a.m. in the Alleghany Memorial Hospital Solarium for a buffet breakfast and program. Visitors are welcome.

Studio Redwood Classes
Cutting Tangles, Webs or Vines - With Deb Donaldson. A technique of cutting with an exact-o knife a tangle, web or vine shape by removing the negative space and layering it over another sheet. Choose either several small cards or begin a large piece of artwork. Saturday, April 9th 10a-noon. Age 16-Adult. Cost: $30, all supplies furnished.

Alleghany Jubilee Happenings!
 Join us for the Hillbilly Hoedown with Rise and Shine Band every Tuesday night. On Tuesday, April 12, we will have our April birthday celebration. Cake, ice cream and finger foods will be served. No alcohol. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, under 12 years old free. Hours are 7-10p with all ages welcome, unless otherwise noted.

Waking from Winter - Join a Ranger at New River State Park, Wagoner Access Area, for a 1 mile hike in search of early signs of spring. We will look for both plants and animals waking up after a long winter. Meet at 2 pm and wear sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle
