Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6p. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Volunteers Needed for the 2016 Mountain Heritage Festival!
This year's festival is already in the planning stages and we need some volunteers to help with the planning of the festival. If you are interested please give us a call at the Chamber at 336-372-5473. Our first meeting will be on March 8th at 3p, at the Chamber Office. Help us make 2016 a year to remember! Ministerium Lenten Service & Lunch
Each service will be 30 to 45 minutes long, will be held at Sparta United Methodist Church @ 12 noon and will be followed by a light lunch that might consist of sandwiches, soup, salad, etc. Each church chooses what they will serve. Donations will go to support the Ministerium. Social Media Marketing
In this Small Business Center two-part class we will discuss how you can touch on all social media avenues in a timely and effective manner. We will examine your post and the actual ROI. This is an interactive class, so bring all your user IDs and passwords. Part 1 will cover Facebook and Twitter and how to get these two powerhouse sites to reach your potential customer. Part 2 will cover Linked In, Pinterest, Google+, and Instagram and how to use these social sites to lead your customer back to you. Thursday, March 3rd from 12p-2p. Part 2 on March 17, same time. Cheer Showcase!
This senior project by Deannh Mihalke will be presented on March 5th at 5p at the Alleghany Community Auditorium with a $3 ticket fee. Please support this project by participation or as a spectator! 
Alleghany Cty Republican Party Precinct & County Convention and Dinner
Join us at our combined Precinct and County Convention at VFW Post 7034 in Sparta, on Thursday, March 3rd at 6 pm. Delegates will be elected for District and State Conventions. This is Petar Peros and his wife Courtney of Sparta, NC. the winner of the 4th $1,000 given away by H&R Block to our clients this year.  Petar and Courtney have two children and reside in Sparta. 4th Annual Special Olympics Polar Plunge!
Join us for a special day of fun, food and music at the Alleghany Special Olympics Polar Plunge on Saturday, March 12 from 11:30 to 3p at Lake Louise in Roaring Gap. A variety of chilis will be available for purchase along with hot or cold beverages and desserts beginning at 11:30. Local musicians will be playing for your enjoyment. Plunger registration begins at 1:00 with a judged costume parade at 1:30. The plunge begins at 2p. Please join us for a fun-filled day with lots of laughs and good food. Alleghany Jubilee Happenings!
Join us for the Hillbilly Hoedown with Rise and Shine Band every Tuesday night. On Tuesday, March 8, we will have our March birthday celebration. Cake, ice cream and finger foods will be served. No alcohol. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, under 12 years old free. Hours are 7-10p with all ages welcome, unless otherwise noted.
