Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6p. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Attention! Information Needed for Magazine and Events Guide!
We are collecting information for the 2016 Sparta Magazine and also for our Events Guide. Please let us know by December 1st if you wish to have your events included in these publications. At the minimum, we need to know the name, date, time and location of the event. We will print a disclaimer that the information is subject to change with directions as to how to get up-dated information. Any additional information will allow us to promote these events better in the magazine. We do understand that you may not have all your small details ironed out yet, but we need the minimum stated in order to include it in our publications. SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans Available
The US Small Business Administration has announced that federal Economic Injury Disaster Loans are available to small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations located in North Carolina as a result of the excessive rain and flooding from Sept 22 through Oct 4. Thanksgiving: Peanuts Style!
The Alleghany Partnership for Children is making plans for their fall "event" which will be held at the Emerson Black Building at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds on November 13 from 6-8p. The theme is "Thanksgiving-Peanuts Style". They are planning to do Thanksgiving activities around the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. They will also be showing the movie in the back area of the building. Evening With Clyde Edgerton
Spend an evening with Clyde Edgerton, author of the 2015 Blue Ridge Read selection: Walking Across Egypt. This event will be at Wilkes Community College, Alleghany Center on Friday, November 13th starting at 7 pm. The author will also be spending time during the day with both Mrs. Miller's and Mr. King's 9th grade English classes at Alleghany High School where the students will be collaboratively discussing this book with Mr Edgerton.
Alleghany High School Volleyball State Championship Celebration!
Come join us at the Alleghany Community Auditorium on Tuesday, Nov 17th at 7p, for an exclusive airing of the Championship Volleyball game and a chance to honor this great team and the school and sponsors that helped it happen.  Admission is free and the program should take about an hour and a half.
Quilters Guild Tribute to our Veterans
The Alleghany Quilters Guild will pay homage to our veterans on Monday, November 16 at the Alleghany Public Library with the following: 1:30-5p, Quilt of Valor Workshop and Demonstration; 6:30p, Program on The Medal of Honor; 7:30p, Reception to honor Veterans. School Science Fair
Take the time to check out our own future adults Science Fair projects in various locations. Tuesday, Nov 17th at Piney Creek, open for parent viewing from 12-2:30 pm. And on Thursday, Nov 19th at Sparta School, open for parent viewing from 4-6 pm with middle school projects in the media center and elementary projects in the multi-purpose room across from the media center. Friday, Nov 20th at Glade Creek School, open for parent viewing from 3-4:30 pm. Tuesday, Dec 1st the County Science Fair will be at the Village Park Event & Conference Center, 308 Memorial Park Drive in Sparta, open from 4-6 pm.
Amethyst Kiah, Musician and Songwriter
Original material, country classics, and classic blues, merging traditional and contemporary roots music. Join Kiah at the Priser Theatre, 22 S Main St, Sparta, from 2-3:30 p on Nov 22nd. Kiah will talk about the Black influences in her music, and how she has merged traditional and contemporary to create her own unique sound. Program is free and open to the public. Her CDs will be available for sale. This Black History program is funded by the Grassroots Arts Project of the Arts Guild, and supported by the NC Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources. Choose & Cut Season to Start on November 22!
What a great way to get in the Christmas spirit! Our local Choose and Cut tree farms will provide a wonderful experience for your whole family! Alleghany Jubilee Happenings!
Join us for the Hillbilly Hoedown with Rise and Shine Band every Tuesday night. On Tuesday, November 10, we had our November birthday celebration. Cake, ice cream and finger foods were served. No alcohol. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, under 12 years old free. Hours are 7-10p with all ages welcome.
