Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6p. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Community Quilt Challenge

The community will be making sampler quilts. Can sign up at Alleghany County Library or Grayson County Library in Independence, pick up patterns at your local library. You will need 3 yards each of 3 different fabrics. There will be "Help Clinics" at the library each month for the next 12 months on the following days:

Sparta: 2nd Tuesday from 5-6pm and/or 2nd Wednesday from 1-3pm.

Independence: 1st Tuesday from 1-3pm.

Photography Exhibit: Latino Entrepreneurs of North Carolina

Jose Galvez, Pulitzer Prize winning photographer and journalist brings his collection of photographs and oral histories to the Alleghany County Library, in Sparta, NC, May 7-22. Mr. Galvez opens the exhibit at a reception, May 7, at 6:30pm. The exhibit is open to the public. For over 40 years, Jos� Galvez has used black and white film to create a powerful and unparalleled historical record of the Latino experience in America. The exhibit is sponsored by the Grassroots Arts Project of the Arts Guild of Alleghany County and funded by the NC Arts Council. For info call 336-372-5573

Alleghany Jubilee Happenings!

Join us for the Hillbilly Hoedown with Rise and Shine Band every Tuesday night. On Tuesday, May 12, we will have our May birthday celebration. Cake and ice cream will be served. No alcohol. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, under 12 years old free. Hours are 7-10 p with all ages welcome.

Buckaroo's Grille will be hosting live music this weekend. We will be having youth night Thursday, April 30, with Tim Lewis and Clay Busic.We want to encourage all young people who would like to come and share your talents with us. Studio Redwood Remodeling!

 

Studio Redwood Gallery will be closed for the next few weeks as they undergo some remodeling. The Classroom will remain open and in operation.
