Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission  is $6. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Shop Downtown 
The town of Sparta offers a variety of art galleries, apparel and accessory stores, gift shops, restaurants and even an old fashioned hardware store. Click here to learn more about the merchants in downtown Sparta. 
  
Barn Quilt Trails 
Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

The Alleghany Chamber of Commerce will be hosting Christmas Party on December 17 from 5-7p at the Alleghany Wellness Center. All members are invited to attend and please also bring a dish of your favorite finger foods. This is simply a social gathering to fellowship with one another and enjoy the holiday season!

New River Artisans - custom rugs Holiday Open House
New River Artisans will be having a Christmas "Sip and Shop" event for the holiday season. Please join us for an afternoon of fun! Bring a friend, grab a cocktail and browse our great variety of beautiful rugs. We have many new rug samples to choose from. Our prices are specially reduced for the holidays. Don't miss out! Alleghany Arts and Crafts Open House and Holiday Hours

Beginning on Nov 28th until Christmaswe will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10a-7p. We will host an Open House on Friday, December 12 from 5p-8p with refreshments and entertainment. Do your holiday shopping with us and support your local artists!  

Santa on Main!
This year, the Alleghany Pregnancy Center is hosting a 'Santa on Main' event, Saturday, December 13th from 12 noon to 4 pm. We will be encouraging those that come to shop local. We welcome our local merchants to place samples of their items, or a small flyer to go along with our decorations. For information please contact (336) 372-7844.
Christmas Events at the Library!
The Alleghany County Library is excited to host the Trojan Playmakers on Friday, December 12 at 7pm. They will perform two short plays and a comedic monologue skit, all centering around the topic of Christmas. The public is welcomed to attend the live performances. Admission is free; donations are appreciated. 'The Arinaska Winds' will perform in concert at the library on Saturday, Dec 20 at 11 am. The group will play a holiday concert of seasonal music. The library will also be hosting its' annual 'Happy Holly Days' Reception on Saturday, Dec 20 from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm. Refreshments will be served to thank our wonderful patrons for all their support during 2014. Please also stop by to see our two special Christmas trees on display. One is decorated with hand-made ornaments which are for sale to support families with disabilities. We are also sponsoring an angel tree from which you may choose and angel and help make someone's holiday brighter. Angel gifts are due back to the Alleghany County Library on Monday, Dec 22. Remember, we will be closed Dec 24-26 to celebrate the Christmas holiday.
Sparta Presbyterian to host 2 Christmas Events!

All are welcome to attend Sparta Presbyterian Church on Sunday, December 14 at 11am, the Sanctuary Choir will present the cantata "O Come Let Us Adore Him", words by Bill Sloan, music by Barry Braman. The December fellowship lunch will follow the worship service.

On Wednesday, December 17 beginning at 6:30pm, the ecumenical children's ministry, Kingdom Kids, will present a Christmas pageant, "A Time of Waiting" by Rochelle A. Stackhouse. A reception hosted by the Sanctuary Choir will follow the pageant.

Cornerstone Christmas Coffee House

Cornerstone Christian Fellowship presents Bethlehem, The First Christmas, on Sunday, December 14. Doors will open at 5:30pm and the program begins at 6pm. All are welcome to attend and are encouraged to bring a can of food that will be donated to the Solid Rock Food Closet. Hors d'oeuvres, sweets and coffee will be served for your enjoyment.

White Dog Quilt Raffle!
This is a fundraiser for the Save a Pet Foundation and Twin Oaks Animal Shelter. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Tickets are available at Twin Oaks Veterinary, and at the Chamber of Commerce. The quilt is on display at Ofelia's, 4 Main Street, Sparta.

Music at Buckaroo's
Buckaroo's Grille will be hosting live music this weekend. Second Sunday Mission Meal - Sparta United Methodist Church hosts the monthly mission meal following their 11am service. All are welcome. There is no charge for the meal; donations are appreciated. Al donations go toward a mission cause.
