Barn Quilt Trails 
Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Weekly Rotary Program
The Club meets every Thursday at 7 a.m. in the Alleghany Memorial Hospital Solarium for a buffet breakfast and program. Visitors are welcome. 

Aug. 7: Ameke Demmink, daughter of local Rotarian, Paul Demmink, will share her experience in Cape Town, South Africa, as a health intern to the city's sex workers.

Aug. 14: Karon Edwards, Alleghany Senior Center Executive Director, will present a program on a support program for caregivers of spouses and family members who are disabled by dementia, Alzheimer's disease and other maladies.

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

The Blue Ridge Christian School will be hosting a fundraising dinner at the First Baptist Church on Sunday, August 10 from 11:15a to 1p. Donations are appreciated and will support the Blue Ridge Christian School trip to Washington, D.C in October.

Family Farm Tour

Alleghany Cooperative Extension and the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce are partnering to offer a Farm Tour for families, Thursday, August 14, from 8:30a-4p. Come learn about different types of agriculture in Alleghany. The tour will leave from the Cooperative Extension office located at 90 S Main Street in Sparta. Happy Memories Club

Most things you do every day without thinking about them, so find out what it would be like if you had to do those without seeing.
