 Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission is $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

 Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6p. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473
River Rock Grill
Music on the Porch
 Spring through fall, the River Rock Grill hosts Live Music on the Porch beginning at 7p each Wednesday. The Porch is host to a variety of musical genres: country, folk, Appalachian, etc. Call 336-372-2694 to find out who's playing.
GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
 Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
 Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never a any admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.
Veterans' Morning Coffee at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Library Celebrates Heart Month

The Alleghany County Library will honor Alleghany sweethearts 2 ways this month.
If you have a special romantic story about you and your loved one to share, write it up and enter it in our "Sweetheat Stories" contest. Also, if you know a local couple who have been married for 25 years or more submit them for the Alleghany Sweethearts contest. Special Olympics Polar Plunge
The Alleghany County Special Olympics sponsors the 2nd Annual Polar Plunge in Alleghany County. This event is to raise funds to support persons who have intellectual disabilities and provide opportunities for them to live their lives to the fullest potential. The Plunge will be March 1st. The Alleghany Chamber of Commerce will be supporting this event as the Executive Director, Ashley, will be raising money to take the plunge. Individual plungers are asked to raise a minimum of $50. If you would like to donate, but don't want to plunge, come by the Chamber and place your donation in Ashley's box. Registration forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce office for those that would like to participate.  This weekend, David Parsons will be performing on Friday, February 7 at 5:30p and Saturday, February 8, Hardtymes will perform at 5:30p. Black History Month Celebrations
 The Alleghany County Library will be hosting two events during the month of February to celebrate Black History. April Turner returns to the Library on February 6 at 6:30p, with "Dancing Stories" combining the art of story-telling with traditional African music and dance. On Saturday, February 8 at 11a, William L. Andrews, Professor of English at UNC-CH presents, "Roots of African American Literature". Library Hosts Lunch N'Learn
The Alleghany County Library will be hosting a very special Lunch 'n Learn on Falconry on Tuesday, February 11th at 12 noon. Falconry is the art and sport of hunting with a trained bird of prey. Come for an hour of discussion about raptors and see a trained Red-Tail Hawk!! Bring your lunch with you. Dessert and drinks will be provided by the library. There is no charge for attending this program but pre-registration is requested so that we can be prepared for the number attending. Homespun's Valentine Contest

Homespun, located in downtown Sparta across from the County Courthouse, will be having a scavenger hunt in their store. The contest lasts through February 15th. Look for hearts throughout the store. Find a peach colored hearts labeled "Txt me" and receive a $10 gift certificate or find a blue heart labeled "I love you" and get a $20 gift certificate.

Country Comfort Homes to participate in Southern Home Show
Country Comfort Homes of Sparta, NC is excited to announce they will be exhibiting their products at the Southern Spring Home & Garden Show in Charlotte, February 21 - 23 and February 28 - March 2. They will be showing three great products, with a main focus on the Classic Metal Roofing Systems aluminum shake shingle roof. Following the show, they will have a display of the new roofing system at Blevins Building Supply in Sparta. THURSDAY, February 6
 The Alleghany County Republican Party will have its monthly meeting as a dinner meeting at 6p with Representative Jeffrey Elmore and Commissioner John Goudreau who will be discussing state and local affairs. To make a reservation for this dinner meeting, call Susan Murphy at 657-1887. Sparta Presbyterian Church is hosting yoga classes on Thursday evenings at 7:15. There is a $5.00 per session cost. Enter from the parking lot on Jones Street. All are welcome. 336-372-5045. SATURDAY, February 8 M  eet with Stone Mountain State Park staff at 1p to discover what is in the Mystery Backpack. There will be a short hike included. This program is for kids of all ages and will last about 1 hour. For more information, call 336-957-8185. SUNDAY, February 9 The public is invited to join the Sparta United Methodist Church for the 11 a.m. worship and remain after the service for the Second Sunday Mission Meal in the church fellowship hall.
