Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission  is $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Spring through fall, the River Rock Grill hosts Live Music on the Porch beginning at 7p each Wednesday. The Porch is host to a variety of musical genres: country, folk, Appalachian, etc. Call 336-372-2694 to find out who's playing.

Barn Quilt Trails: 
Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never a any admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Merchants' Meeting Rescheduled

 

The Retail Merchants will meet on Tuesday, December 10, at Harmony Hill Bed and Breakfast at 8a. A light breakfast will be served, and we will view Christmas scenes in Sparta retail and discuss "getting the customer into your store and causing them to buy something." 

This will be a brief, 1 hour meeting 

so everyone can get back to their stores.

Merchants may want to carpool.

Festival of Trees Open House
The ever so popular Festival of Trees has opened and will be hosting an Open House this Friday, December 6 from 3p-6p.  Located at 60 S Main, the Rock Building beside the Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, there are 25 beautifully decorated trees showcased. Be sure to stop by and view the creatively designed trees and feel free to leave a donation, which helps keep the lights on throughout the holiday season. The building is open Thursday through Saturday, 11a-1p and 3p-6p through December 28.
Singing Christmas Tree, December 6-8
Make plans to attend the annual Singing Christmas Tree at the Sparta First Baptist Church and enjoy the sounds of the Christmas season. The program begins at 7p each night, Friday, December 6 through Sunday, December 8. Tickets are FREE and available at the office of the First Baptist Church. Music at Buckaroo's
This Friday, December 6, Hardtymes will be performing at 5:30p at Buckaroo's Grill. Saturday, Kyle Denny will be playing live beginning at 5:30p. Christmas Craft Fair, This Saturday
Are you searching for the perfect holiday gift? Then the Christmas Arts and Craft Fair is a must visit on Saturday, December 7.

The Fair is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m at the Emerson Black Building at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds. Shop the various vendors of handmade items in indoor comfort. Food is available throughout the day. 

High Country Lights Show Continues

huge holiday light displayHigh Country Lightswill be up and running again this year, beginning on Thanksgiving night at 6p at the Glade Creek Fire Department at 6374 Glade Valley Road. The lights dance to music from the radio station 96.5 FM, so be sure and tune in as you watch. The show will continue until New Year's Day from 6p-10p every night.  

Book Signing and Santa Visits at Village Emporium
Saturday, December 7, 11a-3p

Be sure to bring your children to the Village Emporium at Trojan Village to see Santa and get their picture made there from 11a to 3p. Also, Dr. Suzanne Irwin will be on hand along with Zack Hamm for a book signing at the Emporium from 12 til 2p.  

Christmas With Elvis
ELVIS is coming back to town for a very special Christmas show! Don't miss him at the Priser Theater, 22 S Main Street, Sparta. Tribute artist, Wayne Euliss, will give two performances at 3p and 8p on Saturday, December 7 and one show at 3p on Sunday, December 8. Reserve your seats. Tickets are on sale now for $12. Santa to Visit Alleghany Library

Bring your kids to visit Santa, Saturday, December 7 at 1:30p and receive a small gift! Brought to you by High Country First in Families-a program of Barium Springs-and Northwestern Regional Library. While you're there, check out the handmade ornaments from families here in Alleghany being sold to benefit individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Traumatic Brain Injuries served by HCFIF. 336-372-5573.

Relay for Life Kickoff Event

Alleghany Relay for Life will be hosting a Kickoff to get teams geared up for this years event. Join them on Monday, December 9 at 5:45p at the Mustard Seed Cafe. Refreshments will be served and everyone is invited to come learn more about the fight against cancer.

Sparta Presbyterian Church will host the Highland Camarata in concert on Tuesday, December 10th at 7:30 pm. The community is invited to hear the Camarata perform a wide selection of music.
