Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission is $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6p. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473
River Rock Grill Music on the Porch
Spring through fall, the River Rock Grill hosts Live Music on the Porch beginning at 7p each Wednesday. The Porch is host to a variety of musical genres: country, folk, Appalachian, etc. Call 336-372-2694 to find out who's playing.

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never a any admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.
Veterans' Morning Coffee at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Big Events this Weekend
Western Piedmont Symphony 
Come out and enjoy this Community Performance of Time & Technology on Friday, September 20 at 7p in the Alleghany Community Auditorium.Tickets are now on sale at the Alleghany Library, the Chamber of Commerce office and the Posh Fox in Roaring Gap. Mountain Heritage Festival
Over 100 art, craft and food vendors will line Main Street in Sparta, NC, Saturday September 21, 2013 from 10 AM to 4:30 PM. Demonstrators will be showing
 their talents and traditional mountain music and dancing will entertain throughout the day. Lots of great kids activities too, including face-painting, pony-rides, games and crafts. FREE ADMISSION! Live Music at Buckaroo's Grille
Buckaroo's Grille in Piney Creek, will be hosting live music Friday, September 20 and Saturday, September 21 starting at 5:30 PM. Jest Country will be performing Friday night and Hard Tymes on Saturday. Bring the family for a night of good home cooking and enjoy the cool evenings around the fire pit; feel free to roast a marshmallow or two.

Run for God Sanctioned Event
2013 Mountain Heritage Festival Run
 Join this Run for God on Sept. 21. The Blue Ridge Christian School is hosting the 2013 Mountain Heritage Run and they are looking for runners as well as sponsors. The proceeds from this event will benefit the scholarship fund at Blue Ridge Christian School. The Run for God program is a mission of Mitchell Hollis of Georgia. It is designed as a group program to help friends, families and strangers come together and learn how to grow together physically, mentally, and spiritually. Your tax deductible donations will help BRCS provide the much needed funds to provide the best spiritual and educational opportunities for the youth of Alleghany and surrounding communities. Donations of any amount are appreciated. Donors giving $100 or more will have their name printed on the runners' t-shirts. Lions Club Rummage Sale
The Alleghany Champion Lions Club will have a Rummage Sale at the Sparta Florist Parking Lot during the Mountain Heritage Festival on September 21, 2013. Donations are being accepted to help raise money for our Alleghany Champion Lions Club.

Classes Offered at Studio Redwood
Various Art Instruction Opportunities
Studio Redwood, at 16 S Main St., is offering several different art classes in the next few weeks. Tuesday, September 24, will be a chance for Ladies Night out at 6p. This session includes completing 2 beginning water color paintings with all supplies included for $28. On October 5, Michael Dees will be instructing a workshop on Chair Caning at Studio Redwood at 9:30a for $50. You will need to bring a chair with the damaged reeds removed. Beginning on September 25, two After School Art classes will be offered on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:30p and 4-5p. The focus of these classes will be drawing and painting. THURSDAY, September 19
The Glade Creek Volunteer Fire Department will begin a Ham Radio Technician Class from 7:00-9:15p at their firehouse. The classes will take five weeks, meeting once per week, to complete. One week will be an on-site class to look at a ham radio installation.
SATURDAY, September 21
The Alleghany Farmer's Market will be closed this Saturday but will pick back up next Saturday, Sept. 28, with local produce and kids activities.
The 2013 Mountain Heritage Festival begins at 10a and lasts until 4:30p with over 100 food and craft vendors and demonstrators lining Main Street in Sparta.
 Fox Creek Leather beginning at 1p through Grayson Highlands National Park.
Join a Park Ranger at the 221 Access Visitor Center of New River State Park at 2p, to learn what to do if you get lost and what to carry with you in the woods.
