Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission  is $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Spring through fall, the River Rock Grill hosts Live Music on the Porch beginning at 7p each Wednesday. The Porch is host to a variety of musical genres: country, folk, Appalachian, etc. Call 336-372-2694 to find out who's playing.

Barn Quilt Trails: 
Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never a any admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Local Band To Perform Saturday
5PLAY to Rock the Park 
Come to Crouse Park Saturday evening at 6p and check out the local band 5 PLAY. This performance one of the last of the Music in the Park series. Locals Kerry Martin, Marla Shaw, Kevin Bennett, Eric Bennett, and Gene Cromeens make up the band of 5. They play various types of music; favorites from past and present including anything from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Adele. Don't miss this FREE concert Saturday, August 24 at 6p
Live Music at Buckaroo's Grille

Music at the Library:
Akerman & Wenberg Perform
Come to the Alleghany County Library for a program of early jazz and popular standards from the 1920's and 30's by John Akerman and John Wenberg on the piano and banjo. Program is sponsored by the Alleghany County Arts Council with Funding from the NC Arts Council, NC Dept of Cultural Resources and Funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. 336-372-5573 
Studio Redwood Workshop
Chair Caning Class 
Michael Dees of Michael's Chair Caning Service, Galax, VA is returning to Studio Redwood, Inc., 16 S. Main, Sparta, NC to teach another wonderful Chair Caning Class!  Join us September 7th, 9:30 a. - 2 p. to learn the Centered Diamond Pattern.  Cost:  $50., Supplies included.  There are a few items i.e. scissors, that you will want to bring from home.  Bring a chair with the damaged reeds removed.  Please call 336.372.7111.  Must pre-register.  Class size limited to 6.

After an introduction of goal and purpose, we will establish round table priorities for our monthly meetings to include:  what's working and what's not; merchandising, store appearance and enhancement including storefronts, cleanliness, professionalism in presentation, seeing the store from the customer perspective, cross-referencing with other stores, advertising techniques-how to best reach your customer, cultivating the return customer,
