Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission is $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6p. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473
River Rock Grill Music on the Porch
Spring through fall, the River Rock Grill hosts Live Music on the Porch beginning at 7p each Wednesday. The Porch is host to a variety of musical genres: country, folk, Appalachian, etc. Call 336-372-2694 to find out who's playing.
GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never a any admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.
Veterans' Morning Coffee at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Start the morning off with the Kids Triathlon at the Duncan Recreation Center at 490 Trojan Ave in Sparta. Registration begins at 7:30a, for ages 4-14. At 11:30am, make plans to attend the Alleghany Memorial Hospital Benefit Fashion Show & luncheon hosted by Olde Beau Golf Club. Fashions by LIBBY'S of Jefferson, NC are featured. Come early and shop for select clothing and accessories. Tickets are $25. Call for advance tickets: Patsy Jarrett at AMH Foundation: 372-3281 or Rita Woodruff at 372-8991. Later in the evening stop by Crouse Park and enjoy the free music of bluegrass band, Paula Dellenback & Fox River at 6p. Or check out the Demolition Derby and Figure 8 race at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds beginning at 6p. Proceeds go to the Sparta Masonic Lodge and Sparta-Alleghany Volunteer Fire Department. Country Comfort Homes, Inc. at Southern Ideal Home Show Country Comfort Homes, Inc. of Sparta, N. C. will be introducing a new roof system to this area at the Southern Ideal Home Show. The roof has been around for fifty years but new to our area. The Southern Ideal Home Show is held in Charlotte, NC on August 23rd through the 25th. Through years of commercial and industrial construction and during the years since Country Comfort Homes was formed in 1990, owner Pete Pyles has never been so excited about any product as the aluminum shake shingle roof. Because of their reputation for quality log home construction and fair and honest dealings with customers, Pete was recruited to represent a roofing company with a parallel history, "Classic Metal Roofs".  This new member is a community access TV station based in the Business Development Center and run by Charlie Scott. The station broadcasts on Skybest TV, channel 21, Alleghany Cablevision, channel 98, Wilkes Telecom, channel 17 and Surry TV, channel 7. These channels show community events and happenings, including the County Commissioner meetings and our very own Chamber Showcase. Separate fact from myth about bat behavior and come to love these furry, flying friends of farmers. Meet at New River State Park's Wagoner Access Picnic Shelter at 8p.
