Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission is $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6p. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473
River Rock Grill Music on the Porch
Spring through fall, the River Rock Grill hosts Live Music on the Porch beginning at 7p each Wednesday. The Porch is host to a variety of musical genres: country, folk, Appalachian, etc. Call 336-372-2694 to find out who's playing.

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never a any admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.
Veterans' Morning Coffee at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Busy, Busy Weekend
4 Big Events this Weekend
This weekend is one of the busiest of the year! With 4 big events, no one should have any trouble finding something to do. Starting on Friday, 17th annual Quilt Show will be at the Emerson Black Building at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds at 10a. Attendees are encouraged to vote for their favorite quilts. The Blue Ridge Mountain Arts & Crafts Fair also begins on Friday, at 2p at Crouse Park, featuring one of a ki nd arts and crafts,
a variety of local entertainers and food vendors. Saturday continues with the Craft Fair at 9a and Quilt show at 10a. The VFW Car Show is also slated for Saturday beginning at 7:30am in the NAPCO pa rking lot on Trojan Avenue. The show features classic cars, military displays, food vendors, door prizes, a dj and the Jubilee Dancers. Admission is $5 but those who attend get a chance to vote for Best of Show. Awards will be given at 1p with the show wrapping up at 2p. Saturday night, the Alleghany Fairgrounds will be muddy! The Glade Creek Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a MudSling with competition starting at 5p. This event features Monster Trucks and Crushing Cars. Admission is $10 with children under 12 free. A portion of the proceeds from the MudSling will benefit Relay for Life while another portion will go to the Memorial for the Arizona Firefighters.

Vendors at the Farmer's Market will be offering blueberries, new potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic,a variety of squash and cucumbers, lettuce, basil, and other herbs.
Other vendors also offer the fine array of pastured meat and poultry, eggs and goat cheese, ice cream and butter. Kickin Chicken will be back with quail and chicken eggs and quail meat. The market also has crafts as well as delicious jellies and baked goods.
Please come out and support our local farmers.

Arts Guild Demo
Bill Ramsey to Demonstrate
Thursday, July 25, the Arts Guild of Alleghany will be hosting a live demonstration at the Little River Gallery at 6p. Bill Ramsey is a woodturner and he will be showing off his handiwork. Light refreshments will be served.

This Friday, July 26, enjoy the fellowship of locals and visitors alike at Becca's Backwoods Bean coffee shop as you sample different wines from 4 places in Australia. There is a $5 cover charge but it's well worth it. |
Alleghany Pregnancy Care Center in Need of Donations
The Alleghany Pregnancy Care Center is available to give unconditional love, truthful information, practical help and encouragement to ALL pregnant women of all ages both crisis and non-crisis situations in Alleghany county. The center is currently in need of donations, either monetary or baby items, any and all will be appreciated. If you have any questions or would like more information on how to donate, call the Center at 336-372-7844.

Tickets Now Available
Community Foundation Annual Wine Pairing Dinner
Diners will begin their evening enjoying an aperitif and the scenic views at sunset that only Olde Beau can provide before being treated to a delicious five-course meal accompanied by carefully selected wines. Such is the atmosphere at the Alleghany County Community Fo undation's annual dinners to be held beginning with a social time at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 9 and Saturday, August 24.
Tickets for the Alleghany County Community Foundation (ACCF) 9th annual "A Summer's Evening Wine Tasting and Dinner" are $75 per person, a portion of which is tax deductible. The winery selected for this year's event is RagApple Lassie located in Boonville, North Carolina. A car and driver will be on site should any attendees require their services at the end of the evening.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Alleghany Opportunity Fund. The Opportunity Fund is a permanently endowed source of financial support for nonprofits in Alleghany County. To purchase tickets for this year's event, please contact the co-chairs, Kay Choplin at 336-657-3387 or Debbie Bare at 336-372-1622. Other board members are Bryan Edwards, Brant Banks, Joe Ward and Greg Bare.
