Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7p. Admission  is $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6p. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473
 
River Rock Grill
Music on the Porch
Spring through fall, the River Rock Grill hosts Live Music on the Porch beginning at 7p each Wednesday. The Porch is host to a variety of musical genres: country, folk, Appalachian, etc. Call 336-372-2694 to find out who's playing.

Barn Quilt Trails: 
Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Open Thursday through Saturday, 10a to 5p. There's never a any admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Fiddler's Convention This Weekend
Enjoy traditional mountain music that is sure to get your toe tappin' at the 19th annual Alleghany Fiddler's Convention, July 19 and 20, 2013. With 40 to 60 bands and over 200 individual competitors each year, fans of mountain music won't be disappointed. The convention will take place at the Alleghany Fairgrounds and will begin Friday evening at 5p and continues all day Saturday. 
Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting, July 19
Stop by Mangum - Cater On Main this Friday, July 19 from 4-7p as they celebrate the opening of their gallery and studio on Main Street . There will be a ribbon cutting, light refreshments and heart warming music as well as a chance to talk with the artists and purchase some of their beautiful art pieces. 
Customer Appreciation Day 
Halsey Drug will be hosting another Customer Appreciation Day on Friday, July 19 from 11a-1p. Stop by for hot dogs, chips and drinks and register for a $50 gift card. 336-372-5599

The Farmhouse on Main
A new business has joined our Main Street merchants. The Farmhouse on Main, located across the street from the Town Office, is open and selling antiques, collectibles, food items, and handcrafted solid wood furniture. All items are local and regional handcrafted quality items. Local BBQ sauce and baked goods are also offered. Also housed in the same location is the office of Shaw Auction Company. Diabetes - The Next Pandemic
Dr. Todd Smith and Holistic Health & Wellness presents a free workshop on Diabetes. This is a series exploring Diabetes and blood sugar management. You do not have to attend all of the workshops in the series to participate. The next workshop is Thursday, July 18 from 12n-1p and the Holistic Health & Wellness Center on Main Street. Save A Pet
In Need of Donations
The Alleghany Save A Pet Foundation helps to aid in the rescue and rehabilitation of abused and abandoned animals and promote the importance of spraying/neutering and campaign for free/low cost spray/neuter clinics. They also help to get animals at the shelter adopted and to good homes. Funds are currently low and the foundation is looking for either monetary donations or pet food donations. Visit their website to learn more about their needs and for a list of animals currently in need of adoption. If you would like to help in any way call the Foundation at 336-657-1544. (Just look at that adorable pup!)
