Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails: 
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops: 
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10a to 5p. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee at the VFW:
The VFW hosts an informal coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

In a new twist on "try before you buy," Sparta United Methodist Church is hosting a recipe tasting from their new cookbook, Faith, Food and Fellowship from 5 to 7p. The cookbooks are $17.50 each or $30 for two (they make great gifts). Winston-Salem Journal food editor, Michael Hastings, will be on hand to render his opinion on the dishes. Admission is only $5. Thursday Farmers Market
The Alleghany Farmers' Market adds Thursdays to its schedule by hosting a Business After Hours June 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. They will be grilling up some pastured meat -- a healthier choice -- for you to sample as well as local goat cheese and other fresh goodies. The Alleghany Chamber of Commerce has a Ricoh copier, Aficio MP C3500 that is coming to the end of our 5-year lease. We have made other arrangements for our future copier contract and would be interested in discussing the machine's purchase to a local business. It is a heavy duty machine that will print 35 copies per minute, in black and white or glowing color. It handles up to 11 by 17-inch paper, staples, scans, is networkable. Interested? Kelley and the Cowboys
in Crouse Park on Saturday

They wowed us at the Mountain Heritage Festival and Kelley and the Cowboys return to play on the Crouse Park Stage for Music in the Park this Saturday, June 15, beginning at 6p. With a voice compared to Patsy Cline, Kelley Breidling brings a lot of energy to their mix of country, honky-tonk and Texas swing. There's no admission charge and free watermelon. Just bring a lawn chair or blanket to spread on the ground and enjoy an evening of great music. 

Holden Bare kicks off
Music on the Deck
There will be Music on the Deck at Harmony Hill Bed and Breakfast, 1740 Halsey Knob Road, Sparta, every third Saturday through September and every Saturday in October at 7p beginning June 15. Bring a chair, your favorite beverage, and join your friends for some great music. Alleghany Wellness Center
Monday, June 17, the Alleghany Wellness Center is offering Life Line screening to check for plaque build-up in your arteries, the leading cause of stroke. Life Line uses a painless ultrasound (sonogram) to look for plaque.  PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED Click for details.
