Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6p. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473
GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Veterans' Morning Coffee at the VFW:
The VFW hosts an informal coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Tour de Mountains
Bicycle Classic June 8
The third annual Tour de Mountains bicycle classic will be held in Sparta, NC, Saturday, June 8, and offer a choice of 25, 40, 60, 80 and 100 mile routes through the Blue Ridge countryside. Maps of the routes, as well as applications and other information, are available on the Web at www.tourdemountains.com or by calling 336-372-2944. Registration and check-in begin at 7 a.m. at the Alleghany Wellness Center, 508 Collins Road. Riders leave at 8:30. Sag support and rest stops every 10 to 15 miles will be provided. Early registration is $30 and includes a t-shirt. Registration the day of the ride is $35.

Crouse Park hosts
Crooked Rd Ramblers
The Crooked Road Ramblers will be on the Crouse Park Stage this Saturday, June 1, beginning at 6p. They play old-time music from North Carolina and Virginia. The roots of this band run deep. Kilby Spener, fiddle, is son of noted musicians Thornton and Emily Spencer; Peco Watson plays clawhammer banjo; John Perry, guitar, once played with the New River Ramblers; Donald Hill on guitar and vocals and Karen Carr on bass and vocals. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to spread on the grass. The watermelon man will be there. Admission and the watermelon are FREE. Check the schedule for other bands playing through fall. 336-372-5473
