Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6p. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473
GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Veterans' Morning Coffee at the VFW:
The VFW hosts an informal coffee just for veterans every Wednesday from 8:30-11a. Click to learn more.
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10a-2p, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Last Call for Events Calendar

Top prize $5,000
A few tickets still available
for big Rotary Drawdown
 Time is running out for tickets to put you in contention for the $5,000 top prize in the Rotary Drawdown beginning at 6p, Saturday, May 4, at Alexander Hall (formerly Silver Dollar Music Park). The $100 ticket entitles the bearer to two meals (double entree of grilled chicken breast and pork tenderloin). Pioneer-Eclipse gets SHARP
NC Commissioner of Labor Cherie Berry was in Sparta Monday to tour Amano Pioneer-Eclipse and to award SHARP certification to the facility. The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program recognizes employers who operate an exemplary injury and illness prevention program. Amano Pioneer-Eclipse is the first Alleghany business to be so recognized. Berry is shown test driving a Pioneer-Eclipse buffer during the tour. Also pictured is Plant Manager Michael Brinkmann, WCC Director Jayne Boger and P-E H.R. Director Trasa Jones.

River Rock Hosts
Empty Bowls Monday
 The River Rock Grill hosts the fourth annual Empty Bowls fundraiser in honor of Bet Mangum and to benefit for the Solid Rock Food Closet. Tickets are sold out, so there are no handmade bowls to be given out, but you are welcome to drop by River Rock Grill between 11a-2p and make a donation to receive a soup lunch and bid on silent auction items. D.J. Smith Special Event
Daniel Justin Smith will be at Studio Redwood, 16 South Main St., Sparta, on Saturday, May 4, for a Kids' Show/Songwriter Set & Art Reveal. Chris Davis' new painting inspired by Smith's song "Forever Rain" will be debuted. The special kids set begins at 4:30p, followed by a songwriter set at 5p. The event is sponsored by the Alleghany Arts Council.

Compete for Princess Title
The Blue Ridge Opportunity Commission is inviting Alleghany girls ages 3-10 to participate in the Little Miss Princess contest. This is a fundraiser for B.R.O.C.
