Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6p. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473

Barn Quilt Trails: 
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
 
Driving Loops: 
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10a to 5p. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.
 
Veterans' Morning Coffee at the VFW:

See what's new at AMH
Come see the remodeled Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at an Open House/Chamber Business After Hours, Thursday, April 4, 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to enjoy hors d'oeuvres, network with friends and a chance to win one of two Chamber gift certificates awarded as door prizes. Pulmonary Rehab is now located in the Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic, in a separate building on upper side of the Alleghany Memorial Hospital campus. to Take-A-Break cruisers
Antique and classic cars will be riding historic US 21 next Saturday, April 13, to kick off the Take-A-Break from the Interstate promotion. They'll be encouraged to stop in Sparta in Farmers Hardware parking lot. The Chamber will be distributing goody bags to the first 50 cruisers. Drop off 50 coupons or promotional items and we will put it in the bag with the other goodies. It's a great way to make a new customer!

at Caribe Cuban Cafe
Starting Friday, April 5, Caribe Cuban Cafe, 433 North Main St., will be offering dancing from 10p-2a on Friday and Saturday nights featuring contemporary music to appeal to youth. The tables will be moved and the lower floor willl be used for dancing. Appetizers will be sold, but not meals.  Must be 16 or older. Admission is $10 but ladies admitted free before 11a. "Age of Champions" is the story of a group of athletes competing in the National Senior Games produced for and originally shown on PBS. Genesis Health Care is offering us an opportunity for the public to see the full presentation of this remarkable video at no charge in the Blue Ridge Electric Conference Room Wednesday, April 10, at 6p. People are living longer, productive and active lives. I don't know about you, but it puts a whole new perspective on aging and retirement. Time running out for free tax help
The Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at the Alleghany County Library is providing FREE tax preparation assistance through April 10. If you are interested in getting free help for your taxes, please contact the library at dbrewer@nwrl.org or at 336-372-5573 to set up an appointment or for more information. Tax help is available on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10a til 4p.

Marathon to Benefit BRP Friends

The Blue Ridge Marathon on the Parkway will be held Saturday, April 20, in Roanoke.  FRIENDS of the Parkway is the event's major benefactor. With registration exceeding 2012 and a terrific t-shirt design, a lot of folks will find out if this is really America's toughest marathon. Some 200 volunteers are needed for the weekend to act as course marshals, work aid stations, help set-up and clean-up staff. Click HERE to volunteer.  Type in "FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway" in the comments section to be designated FRIENDS volunteer.
