Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6p. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473
GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

We're looking for the
Tastes of Alleghany
 The Chamber's next quarterly meeting is May 15 beginning at 5:15p in the Blue Ridge Electric conference room and we are looking for local Chamber member eating establishments who would like to help us create a Tastes of Alleghany for the evening. If you are willing to provide your best sample taste to accommodate 30 or so people, call 336-372-5473 and let us know. We'll give you a few minutes to explain your taste. You'll want to have take-out menus on hand to distribute. PLEASE CALL BY MONDAY, APRIL 1. I'm finishing up the newsletter and it needs to be mailed ASAP.

Get Empty Bowls tickets today
Tickets are available for the 4th Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser to help the Solid Rock Food Closet fight hunger. They can be purchased at the Food Closet, Touch of Grace and the River Rock Grill. They are $30 each and permit the holder to enjoy a soup lunch at the River Rock Grill and receive a handmade bowl from an area potter. The annual fundraiser is in honor of Bet Mangum. Easter Egg Hunt for Shoppers
 The Sparta Revitalization Committee is sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt for local shoppers. While shopping, dining or visiting our fair town between March 18-29, look for one of three glitter eggs on a stick. Take-A-Break from the Interstate
Spring Cruz-Thtu comes to Sparta
A convoy of antique and classic cars will travel between Elkin and Wytheville or Wytheville to Elkin on April 13. The largest number are expected in Sparta between 10 a.m. and noon and are encouraged to stop at the Chamber of Commerce & Visitors' Center for one of 50 goody bags we are giving away. Businesses, if you have a coupon or promotional item to put in each bag, we'll include it. (Great way to make new customers!) Take-A-Break from the Interstate is a tourism initiative by the Miles JOB Fund to encourage I-77 drivers to take-a-break from the congestion and experience historic US 21 between Elkin and Wytheville. Get FREE help with tax preparation
The Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at the Alleghany County Library is providing FREE tax preparation assistance through April 10 (with the exception of the week of March 25). If you are interested in getting free help for your taxes, please contact the library at dbrewer@nwrl.org or at 336-372-5573 to set up an appointment or for more information. Tax help is available on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10a til 4p.

Garden seeds, transplants available
Each year the Alleghany Planning Committee sponsors the Summer Garden Seed Program through the Blue Ridge Opportunity Commission Inc. Office (B.R.O.C). Each household who applies and qualifies is issued a $50 voucher to purchase seeds or plants for their garden. Anyone who is interested in applying should call the B.R.O.C. Office at 336-372-7284. Office Hours are Monday-Thursday 9a-3:30p.
