Doctor on the move:
Kovacich joins Virginia practice
Dr. John Kovacich will be closing Internal Medicine of Alleghany Feb. 1 and joining Independence Family Care Center, 217 South Independence Ave., Independence Va. He will begin seeing patients at the new location Feb. 18. The move was explained in letters to his current patients mailed out earlier this month. It said that many of the office staff will be following him to Independence Family Care Center and explained the procedures for patients who want to continue to be seen by Kovacich at the new location and for those who wish to transfer to a new physician. Dr. Kovacich began his practice in Sparta in 1977. A spokesman for the practice said the move will free Dr. Kovacich of the business responsibilities of running a practice and permit him to focus solely on patient care.

WCC advanced training
NC Now recently spotlighted the advanced manufacturing training available through Wilkes Community College. The good news is that manufacturing is making a comeback, but it is more high-tech, requiring more advanced skills. Wilkes has the facilities to train individuals for those jobs. And although the video highlights training at the Wilkes Campus, much of the same equipment for training is available at the Sparta Campus. Click to see the video.
