Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Festival of Trees
A new Holiday treat this year! The Sparta Revitalization Committee is sponsoring a festival of trees on Main Street in Sparta, now through December 30, in the rock building next to the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce. The trees have been donated by local tree growers and decorated by organizations and groups throughout the county. The Festival of Trees will be open to the public, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11a-1p and 3-5p. Admission is free; however, donations are appreciated.

Book Signing at Kaquoli Jayli
Friday, December 14, from 2-4p, Dr. Suzanne Irwin and Zach Hamm will be signing their book, the Stratford Oak Tales: The Tale of Clyde. This is the second book in the series and tells about Clyde, the calf and how he joins the herd. Kaquoli Jayli will be hosting the event at their store at 15 N Main Street in Sparta, 336-372-1777.

 Christmas Coffee House
Cornerstone Christian Fellowship is hosting their annual Christmas Coffee House, Sunday, December 16. A finger food buffet will be available beginning at 5:30p and the program will start at 6p. Everyone is invited to come and join in fellowship.

 Santa at Trojan Village
Santa will be at Santa Land in the Village Emporium on Saturday, December 8, 15, and 22. From 10a until 2:30p, bring the kids and your camera to snap a photo of them with Santa. Santa will also be visiting other stores through Trojan Village on these days as well. 336-372-2247.

 Alleghany Public Library's Angel Tree The Alleghany County Library is sponsoring an angel tree this Christmas. The Library invites everyone to come adopt an angel from the tree and make someone's Christmas a little brighter. Local Potter, Jessie Simpson, owner of Pottery By Jes, is partnering with the Alleghany Historical Museum for a great, new fundraising project. The Museum is now selling vintage style 16-ouncem mugs, specially designed and handcrafted by Jessie in her studio at New Hope, North Carolina. The mugs- perfect for warm, mountain-morning, beverages- were commissioned by Alleghany Historical - Genealogical Society for the purpose of raising funds for upkeep and maintenance of the Museum.336-372-2115

High Country Lights
High Country Lights will begin their 2012 season on Thanksgiving day at 6p. Over 100,000 lights will be on display and choreographed to sixty minutes of music. The Holiday light show is located at Glade Creek Fire Department in Ennice, just across the street from Glade Creek Elementary School. Santa will be visiting each Saturday night from 6-9p. The lights will be running every night, Sunday through Thursday from 6p-10p and Friday and Saturday from 6p-11p. Visit the website for information on all of the special events going on this season.

Library Needs VITA Volunteers
 The Alleghany Public Library is looking for volunteers to help prepare tax returns for 2012. The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs or VITA, will train anyone interested in volunteering and training is offered both online and in a classroom setting. Volleyball Tournaments in Sparta this Spring
 January through April, Alleghany will host over 200 volleyball players along with their families every weekend. We've created a webpage to welcome them to Sparta and to let them know what our town has to offer. Every week we email this page to that week's participating teams. Each business is welcome to promote yourself on our page. Listings are $25 and include a picture, link to your webpage, and a brief description. These listings will stay up all season. Understanding Alzheimer's and Dementia
 Forest Ridge Assisted Living presents "Why I do what I do". This program is offered to anyone who would like to come. Family members of those dealing with alzheimer's or dementia, nurses and CNA's are all welcomed. Teepa Snow, dementia expert will be speaking about her experiences and how to cope with these conditions. Breakfast and lunch are included as well. Can also count toward CEU credits as well.
