Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Pot of Gold Prize is now $60!
No one found Pot of Gold last week so this week's prize has been increased to $60 in Chamber Gift Certificates. The Pot has now been placed with a different merchant. Look for the sign to identify a participating merchant and then be the first lucky shopper to find the pot of gold each week. Simply point out the location of the pot of gold to a store employee and receive a winner token. Tokens can be redeemed at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce for gift certificates to spend with Chamber merchants. This promotion is a partnership with the Sparta Revitalization Committee and the Chamber of Commerce and will continue until December 14. Only TWO more tokens will be given out so be on the lookout for the pot of gold!

Festival of Trees
A new Holiday treat this year! The Sparta Revitalization Committee is sponsoring a festival of trees on Main Street in Sparta, now through December 30, in the rock building next to the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce. The trees have been donated by local tree growers and decorated by organizations and groups throughout the county. The Festival of Trees will be open to the public, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11a-1p and 3-5p. Admission is free; however, donations are appreciated.

 December to Remember: Christmas Bazaar
Alleghany Inn will be holding a Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, December 8 from 9a-2p. Vendors include Thirty-One, Mary Kay, Pink Zebra, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Lindt Chocolate and more. Santa is even expected to show up between 11a-1p. Come out and finish those Christmas lists.

 Santa at Trojan Village
Santa will be at Santa Land in the Village Emporium on Saturday, December 8, 15, and 22. From 10a until 2:30p, bring the kids and your camera to snap a photo of them with Santa. Santa will also be visiting other stores through Trojan Village on these days as well. 336-372-2247.

 Wellness Center Events Sunday, December 9, the Alleghany Wellness Center will be hosting a Christmas Open House with Santa from 2-4p. Bring the children to see Santa and have their pictures made, while the adults can check out the facility and see how the pool is coming along. Monday, December 10, Pampered Chef will be at the Wellness Center from 2-4p. Come by and shop, grab a snack and a drink. There will be a drawing for Pampered Chef products, a Wellness Center Membership and day passes too. Also, on Monday, the American Red Cross Blood Mobile will be at the Wellness Center from 3-7:30p. The Alleghany County Library will be hold Readfest on Wednesday, December 12. Meet the authors and purchase a signed copy of their books from 11a-2p. Book Signing at Kaquoli Jayli
Friday, December 14, from 2-4p, Dr. Suzanne Irwin and Zach Hamm will be signing their book, the Stratford Oak Tales: The Tale of Clyde. This is the second book in the series and tells about Clyde, the calf and how he joins the herd. Kaquoli Jayli will be hosting the event at their store at 15 N Main Street in Sparta, 336-372-1777.

 Alleghany Public Library's Angel Tree The Alleghany County Library is sponsoring an angel tree this Christmas. The Library invites everyone to come adopt an angel from the tree and make someone's Christmas a little brighter. Angels include needy individuals from the community as well as a few hospice patients. Angel gifts are due back to the library by Tuesday, December 18 at 5:30p. 336-372-5573 |

The Alleghany Chamber of Commerce Chamber Showcase premiers this week and will be show each week at Monday at 6p, Wednesday at 8p, Friday at 5p and Saturday at noon. Available in Alleghany on Alleghany CableVision channel 98, and Skybest TV channel 21. Also on Skybest 21 in other counties, Wilkes Tellecommunications 14 and Surry TV 15. Tune in. High Country Lights
High Country Lights will begin their 2012 season on Thanksgiving day at 6p. Over 100,000 lights will be on display and choreographed to sixty minutes of music. The Holiday light show is located at Glade Creek Fire Department in Ennice, just across the street from Glade Creek Elementary School. Santa will be visiting each Saturday night from 6-9p. The lights will be running every night, Sunday through Thursday from 6p-10p and Friday and Saturday from 6p-11p. Visit the website for information on all of the special events going on this season.

Library Needs VITA Volunteers
 The Alleghany Public Library is looking for volunteers to help prepare tax returns for 2012. The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs or VITA, will train anyone interested in volunteering and training is offered both online and in a classroom setting. Local Potter, Jessie Simpson, owner of Pottery By Jes, is partnering with the Alleghany Historical Museum for a great, new fundraising project. The Museum is now selling vintage style 16-ouncem mugs, specially designed and handcrafted by Jessie in her studio at New Hope, North Carolina. The mugs- perfect for warm, mountain-morning, beverages- were commissioned by Alleghany Historical - Genealogical Society for the purpose of raising funds for upkeep and maintenance of the Museum.336-372-2115
