Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

New Pot Of Gold winner!
Chris Haas of Concord, NC was this week's winner of $30 in Chamber Gift Certificates for finding the Pot of Gold at Farmer's Hardware. The Pot has now been placed with a different merchant. Look for the sign to identify a participating merchant and then be the first lucky shopper to find the pot of gold each week. Simply point out the location of the pot of gold to a store employee and receive a winner token. Tokens can be redeemed at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce for a $30 gift certificate to spend with Chamber merchants. This promotion is a partnership with the Sparta Revitalization Committee and the Chamber of Commerce and will continue until December 14. Only three more tokens will be given out so be on the lookout for the pot of gold!

Festival of Trees
A new Holiday treat this year! The Sparta Revitalization Committee is sponsoring a festival of trees on Main Street in Sparta, now through December 30, in the rock building next to the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce. The trees have been donated by local tree growers and decorated by organizations and groups throughout the county. The Festival of Trees will be open to the public, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11a-1p and 3-5p. Admission is free; however, donations are appreciated.

Monthly Wine Tasting and Businesses Open Late
Friday, November 30, Backwoods Bean Coffee Shop will be hosting their monthly wine tasting. There is a $5 cover and tastings begin at 6p. They offer an extensive wine list, so stop by to see which ones will be featured this month. 336-372-7888
Several stores will be open late on Friday so please take a stroll down Main Street and patronize the shops after enjoying your wine.

 Singing Christmas Tree Make plans to attend the Singing Christmas Tree at Sparta First Baptist Church, Friday, November 30 through Sunday, December 2. Starting at 7p each night, local choirs members join together in harmony, singing beloved Christmas carols and hymns. Tickets are free, but you must reserve a ticket by calling the Sparta First Baptist Church office at 336-372-8446. |
JAM Benefit Concert & Silent Auction
Saturday, December 1, JAM Instructors, Kids, and Wayne Henderson will all be performing at the Historic 1908 Independence Courthouse in Independence, VA. Doors open at 6p with $20 admission. Admission includes concert, silent auction, hors d'oeuvres and desserts. There will also be a cash bar. Silent auction items include art, handmade crafts, vintage/collectors items and more. This fundraiser will help support Junior Appalachian Musicians, Inc, a non-profit organization dedicated to revitalizing an important cultural heritage.  Annual Christmas Craft Fair Saturday, December 1, the Annual Christmas Craft Fair will be at the Emerson Black building at the Alleghany Fairgrounds. Christmas Homes Tour
The Piney Creek Dirty Fingers Garden Club has an awesome Christmas Homes Tour scheduled for Sunday, December 2 from 1:00 to 5:00. Advance tickets are needed and are fifteen dollars. Refreshments are included and will be served at The Meeting House, (Intersection of Piney Post Office Road and Hwy 93). The Alleghany Chamber of Commerce Chamber Showcase premiers this week and will be show each week at Monday at 6p, Wednesday at 8p, Friday at 5p and Saturday at noon. Available in Alleghany on Alleghany CableVision channel 98, and Skybest TV channel 21. Also on Skybest 21 in other counties, Wilkes Tellecommunications 14 and Surry TV 15. Tune in. High Country Lights
High Country Lights will begin their 2012 season on Thanksgiving day at 6p. Over 100,000 lights will be on display and choreographed to sixty minutes of music. The Holiday light show is located at Glade Creek Fire Department in Ennice, just across the street from Glade Creek Elementary School. Santa will be visiting each Saturday night from 6-9p. The lights will be running every night, Sunday through Thursday from 6p-10p and Friday and Saturday from 6p-11p. Visit the website for information on all of the special events going on this season.

Library Needs VITA Volunteers
 The Alleghany Public Library is looking for volunteers to help prepare tax returns for 2012. The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs or VITA, will train anyone interested in volunteering and training is offered both online and in a classroom setting. Local Potter, Jessie Simpson, owner of Pottery By Jes, is partnering with the Alleghany Historical Museum for a great, new fundraising project. The Museum is now selling vintage style 16-ouncem mugs, specially designed and handcrafted by Jessie in her studio at New Hope, North Carolina. The mugs- perfect for warm, mountain-morning, beverages- were commissioned by Alleghany Historical - Genealogical Society for the purpose of raising funds for upkeep and maintenance of the Museum.336-372-2115

Alternative Medicine Center moved to Florida
Dear people of Sparta and Alleghany County, We want to inform you about the cease of the operations of the Alternative Medicine Center of Sparta.
In order to maintain the center open from day one, we had to cover 50% of our expenses with our personal money, and we could not do it any longer. The few patients we had, were referred to an alternative medicine practitioner in Charlotte.
We want to thank everyone who believed in us as a professionals and as a human beings. We want to tell you, that we were completely dedicated to you and to resolve your health issues.
