Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 Alleghany Wellness Center Hosts Chili Lunch Today, Thursday, November 8, the Wellness Center will have a chili lunch from 11:30-1:30. Lunch is $10 and includes a bowl of chili, cornbread, salad, dessert and drink. AWCI is also offering take-out meals and will also deliver to businesses within the Sparta city limits. Tickets can be purchased now at the Wellness Center front desk or the day of the lunch. 336-372-2944. |

 Alleghany Public Library Amnesty Days The week of November 5-10, the Alleghany Library will be accepting donations of canned or non perishable food items, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, etc. in exchange for any lost materials, fines or fees. 336-372-5573 |

Pot Of Gold is Hidden!
Congratulations to last week's, Pot Of Gold Winner, Ann Watson! This week the pot of gold has been hidden again. It is in a Chamber member retail shop in Sparta. Look for the sign to identify a participating merchant and then be the first lucky shopper to find the pot of gold each week. Simply point out the location of the pot of gold to a store employee and receive a winner token. Tokens can be redeemed at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce for a $30 gift certificate to spend with Chamber merchants. This promotion is a partnership with the Sparta Revitalization Committee and the Chamber of Commerce and will continue for ten weeks until December 14. Only ten tokens will be given out so be on the lookout for the pot of gold!

 Calendar Meeting Tuesday, November 20, the Chamber will be hosting a calendaring meeting for 2013. We are working on getting events in the Sparta Magazine and our master calendar for the community. Everyone with a planned event needs to come! It will begin at 5:30p in the Main Floor Conference Room of the old county office building next to Medi Home Care. Festival of Trees 
A new Holiday treat this year! The Sparta Revitalization Committee is sponsoring a festival of trees on Main Street in Sparta, November 23 through December 30, in the rock building next to the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce. The trees have been donated by local tree growers and decorated by organizations and groups throughout the county. An open house will be held Friday, November 23 from 4-6p. After the Open House, the Festival of Trees will be open to the public, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11a-1p and 3-5p. Admission is free however donations are appreciated.

Chamber Showcase
The Alleghany Chamber of Commerce has a new member benefit, The Chamber Showcase. This is a show, aired on Alleghany Community Television and shown in 5 surrounding counties. Each month a new episode will air featuring 5 businesses and 5 sponsors. Ashley Weaver interviews each business owner in their store or business. A pilot episode is available to view, however this pilot only shows one business and does not include sponsors. The first show will air the week of Thanksgiving and run through December. We will be looking for more businesses to shoot every month, so let us know if you would like your business on TV! |
