Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Trunk or Treat is NOT cancelled
Contrary to prior reports, tonight's Trunk or Treat festivities will take place. Trunks will be setup at Crouse Park from 5-7p with a Costume Contest beginning at 6p. Age groups for the contest are 0-3 years, 4-7 years, 8-12 years, and Teen to Adult as well as a Pet costume category. Decorated trunks will also be judged. Cash prizes will be given for 1st and 2nd place in all categories, except for pets which will receive toys and treats. There will also be a haunted tent! Come out for a Spook-tacular night!

Halloween at the Library
The Alleghany Library will be hosting "Halloween Fun for Everyone". The Library invites everyone, the young and the young-at-heart to stop by the Library on October 31 in costume to receive a bag of candy. One bag of candy, per person, in costume, during regular business hours, 8:30a-5:30p. Bring your library card or pick up your first library card for an extra treat. 336-372-5573.

Pot Of Gold is Hidden!

Congratulations to last week's, Pot Of Gold Winner, Ann Watson! This week the pot of gold has been hidden again. It is in a Chamber member retail shop in Sparta. Look for the sign to identify a participating merchant and then be the first lucky shopper to find the pot of gold each week. Simply point out the location of the pot of gold to a store employee and receive a winner token. Tokens can be redeemed at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce for a $30 gift certificate to spend with Chamber merchants. This promotion is a partnership with the Sparta Revitalization Committee and the Chamber of Commerce and will continue for ten weeks until December 14. Only ten tokens will be given out so be on the lookout for the pot of gold!

2012 Awards Banquet
This year's banquet on November 2,at Olde Beau, beginning at 6:30p, will be honoring Food Lion, Rob Mangum, and the Solid Rock Food Closet. Unfortunately, the deadline for tickets has passed.

Piney Creek Dirty Fingers BBQ Dinner
Despite their name, this garden club can serve up a good meal. Saturday, November 3, from 5-7p, the Dirty Fingers Garden club is hosting a BBQ dinner at Piney Creek School. Adults are $10, Children $7, 5 and under are free. Call Sara McMillan for details, 336-359-2285.

 Alleghany Public Library Amnesty Days The week of November 5-10, the Alleghany Library will be accepting donations of canned or non perishable food items, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, etc. in exchange for any lost materials, fines or fees. 336-372-5573 |
 Alleghany Wellness Center Hosts Chili Lunch Thursday, November 8, the Wellness Center will have a chili lunch from 11:30-1:30. Lunch is $10 and includes a bowl of chili, cornbread, salad, dessert and drink. AWCI is also offering take-out meals and will also deliver to businesses within the Sparta city limits.
